I know its a bit of an anorak question, but which pressure gauges are you guys using?
I notice that on the longacre site they say the gauges are the most accurate in the middle of their range. That would mean for us with A048s’ we need a gauge were the 20-30psi range is in the middle…which they do not sell.
So i am wondering if i should get a gauge 0-30psi and work in the upper end of the scale or a 0-60psi and work just below middle. It seems to me that the larger scale on the 60psi negates any accuracy improvements by being in the middle…
I think Longacre’s 0-30 measures in half stops, so even it it’s less accurate at that end of the scale it’s increased scale should make up the difference, so that’s what I went for, despite being a bit bummed I now can’t use it for other cars in the family with higher pressures.
Demon theives had one from somebody that went 0-40 which tempted me.
I ordered the winning “Race X Professional Tyre Gauge” from http://www.dcp-shop.co.uk for 8.99 inc shipping… Before my Halfords digital one gave up the ghost it’s readings weren’t always reliable.
Spend your money on a decent pyrometer. A pressure gauge is fairly useless unless used in conjunction with a pyrometer, as knowing the pressure tells you very little, except what pressure you’re at Whereas knowing the temperature tells you if your pressure is too high or too low, which ultimately is what you’re probably looking for.
At Oulton park recently I took the trusty Halfords 8 digital guage to do the usual pressure set up. A Porsche race team were there using a Snap on guage (about 150 quid) or so the mechanic said. I asked to borrow it and i checked against the Halfords jobbie - there was nothing in it !!
Taking this example you could buy the digital guage and the pyro meter and still have enough left for 5 gallons of Optimax.
RS Components have the pyro’s on specials every other month at 49…Its a brill gadjet

I agree, i am getting both (thanks santa!). I plan to do some development on my geo and pressures to get all i can from the ao48s’
