I currently have the standard A048s fitted but they have seen better days so am looking for a replacement.
Originally I was thinking of going for the 888s’ but since then I have read that the R1R’s are a good alterative for road use. I notice they are 205’s up front but suppliers say they can be fitted to 6.5"-7" rims.
I use 48 M comp in the dry and R1R in the wet.
Happy with this so far
Take these reviews with a pinch of salt (and individual comments like this!) as those reviews give 48s a 50% + recommendation in the wet when they can be lethal. Is that ‘50%’ a mortality statistic?
888’s. Brilliant in dry and I found them surprisingly excellent at a very wet Bedford few weeks back. Been told they are not so good once worn, but this brand new set far far far exceeded my expectations of grip in the wet. Was amazed

Couldn’t agree more - I have used them in quite literally all conditions (apart from in snow on a track!) and everything you said is spot on IMO.
If it’s for road use mainly with a couple of track days I’d go with R1R’s - - very pleased with mine - very good in the wet and very good progression in the dry - will over heat in the dry on track if you stay out too long. I have not tried mine in freezing temps though so can’t comment on that. FYI I use AO48’s on dry track and R1R’s on the road / wet track - having 2 sets of wheels really helps…
My r1r’s have seen lots of wet slippery road use and stood up well so far, only downside is a softer sidewall so less steering feel and general fogginess compared to the OE yoko’s.
