OK, we’re all petrolheads here. I’m having totally different thoughts of where to go next.
I own car 77, a titanium grey S1 with a Scholar tuned VHPD good for 218bhp. It has a red alcantara trimmed interior with M/S seats and harnesses. I’m no Ayrton Senna but I love my car to bits. I’ve had it for nearly six years now (which is a record for the 57 cars I’ve owned, normally they last months), but am just beginning to get itchy feet. So, my two trains of thought are:
Change the colour. I quite like the Gold Leaf Type 49 Red over Old English White similar to the Le Mans Sports Cars Exige, and that would suit the interior. The other thoughts are paint it black with JPS details and decals, similar to the type 72. Or just paint it another colour all together.
Sell it and buy an Ariel Nomad. I like these a lot too. I’ve owned screen less kit cars in the past, and think the Nomad is just bonkers and looks massive fun, It’d get used just as much as the Exige if not more.
I’m starting to get a little precious about the Exige (“I’m just looking after it for the next generation”) and have mainly used it for dry weather road use. I know if I sold the Lotus, I’d feel its loss (It’s beautiful), but I can only invest in one toy.
I do hear you Kurt. I’ve been through a few livery options with mine and even though some people think I’m a bit of a heretic for painting it, I love mine in Lambo grey.
I saw an Atom on the road today. I.m not a big fan but it did look pretty cool. He was a bit surprised when I did not get any smaller in his mirrors when he booted it , well until he got to a silly speed and I let him go. I prefer the Nomad but I’d really want a farm to razz around in as it feels that’s what they’re designed for.
All I can advise is that I sold my 2 previous S1s and regretted it badly .
Its your car so you can paint it any colour you like BUT if it is a long term keeper it should remain stock as special liveries reduce the appeal for new buyers.
Put in the garage and buy the Aerial…you will soon tire,of,it and return to,your trusted Exige.
Keep the Exige and wrap it? Some of the vinyl wraps I’ve seen recently are stunning, it’s cheaper than a respray and easier to go back to original or change colour again if you change your mind
Hi Kurt, the thoughts youre having ive also been through.
At one time i wanted it respraying in renault liquid yellow but thought better off and kept it orginal.
I recently had my other car wrapped for a change (owned it for 5 years) and can highly recommend doing this, its totally transformed and freshened up the look with the advantage i can return it back to its orginal colour.
I also look at it as protecting the orginal paint.
Imo it’s in the perfect colour as it is, it’s just perfect Kurt. It’s always tricky when the itchy feet come calling, I should know. I sold my last one…
Life’s too short not to try different things though…
But, it’s just perfect Kurt…ha ha, I’ve not been much help I know…
Have you driven an Aerial? I haven’t personally but understand that the Atom handled quite differently to a Lotus. Maybe worth getting a shot to see if it tickles the fancy on the driving front as much as they do on the bonkers looks.
