TURBO TECHNICS TT230 SUPERCHARGED LOTUS ELISE ENGINE AND GEARBOX
The whole assembly cost 12,000 from Turbo Technics (yes twelve thousand pounds), bills to prove.
Great when it works, giving a very exciting 230bhp and great torque, however, not so good when it drops a valve which is what can be seen embedded in No 4 piston, so needs a rebuild I think it is fair to say.
The engine and gearbox have done just 4,000 miles, the gearbox is geared to suit the characteristics of the Turbo Technics engine and is part of the package, obviously the gearbox is as new, not sure of the actual gearing, you would have to check with Turbo Technics.
The only thing missing from the package is the chargcooler, which is a front mounted radiator, Bosch pump and associated pipework, I used an Escort Turbo chargecooler which was not ideal and I would recommend using the correct parts which are available from Turbo Technics.
Just to be clear what is included in the package:-
K series block with damaged pistons and liners, rods and crank should be OK but I haven’t done a complete strip down so I offer no guarantees on that. The block can be rebuilt with new liners, worth keeping this block as it has the oil return pipe from the supercharger.
Head with cams and distributor, head is probably scrap, although it is amazing what they can do with aluminium welding these days, best to speak to an expert like Dave Andrews. Cams and distributor are okay.
Complete Supercharger assembly.
Side mounted oil cooler for the supercharger, oil filter has a take off point.
Extremely large air induction kit.
Wiring loom with the double extra injector leads.
Emerald ECU, hard coded for the TT230, been back to Emerald for checking as I was confused why it would run a VHPD, Emerald gave it a clean bill of health and pointed out that as it was hard coded it wouldn’t run anything else but a TT230, email to prove.
PG1 gearbox provided by Turbo Technics with their gearing suited for the TT230.
I have been offered 400 for the Emerald alone, however, I wish to keep it as a complete package.
With a minimum of expenditure you could have 230 bhp in your Elise, you would spend up to 10,000 installing a Honda K20A which gives only 197bhp and 220bhp with modifications.
