Trickle Chargers...

Hey all just been out the the car to turn it over and found the battery flat after a week, i think its just gone cold with the weather and just had enough, i have a normal charger on it at the minute but just woundered what are people using over the winter period and can you charge it from the 12v socket?

Ctek is what I have very good all round, I used to use a solar trickle charger on my S2 into the cigar lighter socket

I’ve just invested in an Accumate.

Yep, just ordered an XS3600 from eBay, 38.

Cig Socket is live on the S2 I think, not on the S1 though.

Optimate 4 for me

Used a CTEK XS3600 all last winter, same again this year.

So there is a question, is it better to charge all winter or leave it to go flat and charge it again next year?

If you have a ETEK style charger they cycle the battery and keep it in perfect health.
If you leave it to go completely flat the battery will more than likely be knackered in a couple of months.

Yep, bad idea to let batteries go totally flat. Let it happen a few times and it’ll be toast. You’d be much better off taking the battery out, or disconnecting it all together if it not going to be used for a long time.

right so i guess the accumate and the ctek are both as good then ?

i.ve just made up a lead to plug in the cigarette lighter and connects to a normal 12V car battery charger.

CTEK is the “S1” of the charger world. No one would critise you for buying something else, but if you did, deep down you’d just keep asking yourself if you’d made the right decision…

Optimate is fantastic…

I use a CSI Airflow which is what Lotus badged as their own.

In an S1 you can’t charge from the cig lighter as it gets cut when you turn off the ignition.

I ran the wires to the battery through the large rubber hole in the top of the passenger foot well and run the charger from the passenger footer well.
