Trials and tribulations of the average Lotus Joe.

I’m off to Brands today so as I was mostly free yesterday I’d thought I’d just check the car over. All the wheels came off, brake pads checked, wheels cleaned, calipers cleaned, suspension fiddled around with, rear diffuser came off, checked the exhaust mountings (paranoia was setting in).
Took the roof off to take the seats out as there was one or two small stones rolling around under my seat, cleaned the seats and gave the interior a damn good clean… and then I found how basic the engineering is with a Lotus, the seat runners were crudely bolted to the frame and when trying to bolt them back into position I found that the bolts had cross threaded, it seems that the bolts are made from something alot harder than what they are screwing into, still all sorted now.
Roof went back on (still squeaks) - I’m surprised it does not blow off considering how it is ‘bolted’ on !

With the seats out it really is a tinny little car !

will spend a few hours this morning cleaning her, then off to BH where by all accounts the weather is going to be fine.

Have a good day Pete.

I’ve bought the workshop manual for mine and its a real eyeopener how simple the car is.

I am doing my own work on it as its basic, will be a good way to learn more about mechanics.

Have a great day at BH

Sounds like my sort of day. Yesterday I had all wheels off and cleaned them to the point they were like/better than new. I was so bored I even Autosol’ed the wheel bolts!!

So far today have had two new rears fitted and the cars now up on ramps with the diffuser off while I sort out a rattling heat shield and refit the CAT (which I think is knackered )

How was the trackday Pete?

re roof squeek,i lightly smeared vaseline onto the rubber seals refitted roof no problems since.cant beat a bit of lubrication.

Agreed some silicon spray will do the trick on the seals.

washing up liquid too actually…and I have no problems when it rains either

How was the trackday Pete?

Spot Bollock on

Great weather, setup was spot on and the Larini sounded great - I’m gonna be an agent for 'em…

Good crowd, good etiquette, nice way to spend an afternoon.

The roof squeak is driving me nuts - so the roof comes off again this weekend and plenty of lubrication will be smeared all over… then I start work on the roof.
