Got them for a steal and could not say no. They were fitted to a car on the 28th of november which has just been sold to a new owner who wants it standard so the new owner removed them.
They have only done 2k miles and look like new, better still when he removed them he was not happy at a slight bit of pitting on the rear rods so sent them to Nitron under warranty and they were rebuilt (you can see the bump stops).
I have full invoices from Hofmann’s and all the e mails between the new owner and nitron.
I am very pleased as I always miss out on things like this.
I do have a question though, on the invoice the owner had an adjustable ARB fitted and when I search around about settings I see alot of talk about adjusting ARB’s. So is that something you need or will I be fine without?
Ah is that something that changed on the later cars? The car they came off was an 04 NA, mines an 07 S with touring pack. I’ll go take a look in a sec.
I thought the adjustable front ARB was part of the sport pack
Could be wrong though…
I think your right as I cant see anything yellow? I can see what I think is the ARB but its black and I cant see any holes in it.
So do I need one? I am guessing not?

You’ll need to check it’s okay for your car but this seems very good value to me…
Yep that looks cheap enough, are they tough to fit and is it really something I need? What exactly do they do?
cheers

Relatively straight forward to fit from memory clamped in two bushes (may need to remove a covering plate to get to the clamps) and then the links either side.
Does what is say on the tin; increases, or reduces the roll during cornering. For example if you were struggling with low speed understeer, you may wish to soften the ARB (with the appropriate damper changes) etc.
Not sure how much track work you do to see the benefits Andy, if you’re like me not enough!
Yep I figured that would be the case, I dont do much track work (hoping to do more) So I guess I can look at it later and put the cash towards a track day
Cheers guys, I will see what its like with the dampers and maybe look at the arb later
Thommo, probably more like getting blingy than serious Really though I was going to wait until I had a few more TD’s under my belt but when these came up I knew if I missed out I would probably regret it. I missed some std exige S nitrons a while back and they dont come round very often, these being Hofmanns are even rarer.
I have a couple more questions, how can I check the spring rates? In pencil on the invoice it says F=475 R=650 however the figure at the end of the spring says 500 and 700?
Also Damper settings -12 Front -10 Rear I have played with the adjusters to check they are free, I see they have 24 clicks so where is -10 and 12? and what do they sound like as settings?
I also have ride heights and corner weighting settings but they wont matter to me, his was set at 115 123 with an 8mm rake, I think I need 120 at the front so guess that I will want 128 rear?
Lotus Sport spec a no rake set up of 130mm.
I have gone for 115mm all round as if you go to 110mm I am told you will get rubbing in the arches.
Whats the idea behind having a rake then? I might go 125 all round if no rake is needed as my car spends alot of time on the road and speed humps are a slight worry.
Rake is a used to improve aerodynamics. It is designed to pull a slight vacuum on the air under the car and “suck” the car to the ground.
Whatever aero balancing Lotus have done seems to suggest they don’t need to. As I can’t confirm if the S2 is actually aero balanced I can’t confirm or deny if rake has any gains on an S2.
IMHO I doubt it without combining it with an improved front splitter, rear difusser and rear wing that are all designed together.
But on the flip side rake does generally look cool on most cars
Boothy, -12F -10R from full hard is about right and is what I use on the road / tracks I don’t know. There is a big difference in stiffness in the middle of the damper range settings. You can tell the difference even at -11 -9. The stiffest I go on track is -10 -8 (550/750 springs).
I found I had a tiny bit of initial understeer until I replaced the arb.
I would suggest that perhaps once a month / when you change brake pads spraying the adjuster with WD40, winding to full soft, spraying again, winding to full hard, spray again then back to your settings as they can stick.
Thanks Neil! now for the total novice question… as you mentioned full hard I am guessing thats all the way to the + side? and that -12 would be 12 clicks to the - or left?
Also the adjuster goes just past the last click both ways but not into a full position if that makes sense? so I assume I turn to that point then bring it back 12?
