Was looking at treating myself to a TRD airbox, I’m aware they probably do nothing for performance, but I’m not opposed to being a bit more vocal
Reading various posts it sounds like even though this is an ‘official’ part the quality and fit is not great and requires a bit of faffing around with bending brackets and blanking off hoses; so is it worth the effort? and is this reversable if I don’t get on with it?
I’d be careful with the K&N filter - I had one fitted to my old 260 Cup and it screwed the MAF within a couple of hundred miles and caused me mega grief due to the ‘wetness’ of the filter
I’ve just fitted one to mine with the paper filter.
I can’t comment on sound as the car had a pipercross vis on it before and that roared but I wanted the stock in the engine bay.
As Dave said, a little bit of faffing to fit but not the end of the world, A little like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Yeah k&n filter was fitted by C/N when the 260 was done, I didn’t ask for one they just fitted it. I suppose it depends how much oil they put on the filter as I didn’t have a problem with the maf sensor.
Well that was a pain to fit, not wishing to mess around bending the support bracket on the bulkhead, just re-drilled the 2 front mount holes in the correct place, sorted.
I just had one fitted to mine when i had it serviced last week. I felt it was more then worth it, the more pronounced supercharger sound is exactly want i wanted. No idea if there has been any performance gains though, i dont really care either to be honest.
I just swapped (yesterday) from a TRD to stock air filter/box. I prefer the sound of the exhaust and wanted to decrease the cabin noise.
Weather is more suitable for Noah today, so not managed to see/feel any differences and if the TRD gave a BHP increase.
I don’t like the adapter “ring” that the TRD air box uses… it does not seal!!! I’ve use silicone to to seal the adapter rig to the box. I’ve then swapped it out for the SSC CAI but now I wish I had gotten the Reverie CAI…
I didn’t really have that issue with mine, tried to silicon the seal to the box (as some people do) but then found it hard to get it all in place and clamped up so abandoned that and it all went together well with no leaks AFAIK
There are definitely air gaps… I took my air box out. installed the adapter ring with clear silicone glue and installed the air filter and cover to hold the “ring” in place as it dries. Then I let it dry over night… then installed it again.
Shine a flashlight into the air box as it is out and you can see all the air gaps.
