Tracker Fitment

My insurance co have insisted on a Cat 5 approved tracker for my Exige S.

The guy came out to fit it yesterday, but gave up. Basically he couldn’t find anywhere to put the unit (I caught a glimpse of it is pretty much half the size of a car radio)

Therefore they want the car in to the workshop to strip the interior

Obviously I am worried about this level of work and it’s effect on warranties.

The unit also looks like a right PITA. It adds another immobiliser, with a little token to carry around. You are not supposed to keep this token with your keys, eg. Carry the token round with you everywhere… I’m going to have to fashion it into a medallion for me to have any chance of not losing it

Apart from the personal attack issue (Eg. Pikey breaks in to steal your keys, can’t start the car, they are going to know you have this sort of thing, and drag you out of bed) The hassle just seems too extreme… GRRR Insurance Companies

Smarttrack fitted one of their units in my “S”. Without going into details on here it took the engineer about 30 mins to fit mine

Another thumbs up for SmarTrack

Sorry guys, that item isn’t listed as cat 5 approved. (Reading the blurb on SmarTrack site I think it’s Q rated)

The guy did actually say they had fitted non Cat 5 based kit in the past, but the unit was quite a bit bigger.

He did manage to fit one to a colleagues 911 on the day, that took 2 hours.

I think the primary difference between Q and 5 is, on 5 the car can be remotely disabled (I also saw something about remote speed limiting too)

uh… is it too obvious to suggest getting a different insurance company? TESCO of all people do me, 26, with a ‘normal’ tracking type device
