So what is the deal with the track day insurance on your road policy should you have an accident on track?
By that I mean does it go against you as a claim when applying to any other road policy, say for your daily runner?
I have a few insurances out now with trackdays included but never used the facility.
I have had a race policy out before on a race car but if i were to bin it I wouldnt be telling any road policy insurance company about it as its seperate specialist insurance.
Just wondered how it faired with these road/trackday insurances thats all?
Not tested it, but i guess a road policy claim is a claim, TD or not so therefore would need to be declared as such but i would ensure a future insurer was aware if it happend on a TD.
As Muu say’s the excess is higher - 10% of the car’s value in my case.
Race insurance is a different ball game as you say (so not affecting road policy). Best to read the (road cover) small print though just in case, as loss adjusters will look for any loophole to avoid a payout, e.g. a previous non-declaration.
From memory my Henderson Taylor policy is about £500 excess on road and £1500 for track and the policy is protected.
As Tim says if you had to claim it would be best to disclose this as insurance companies will always look for a way of not paying.
I have a number of policies too Gav, all of which are protected NCD but if I claimed on one I think I would have to tell the others when renewing but wouldnt expect it to effect the premiums.
I claimed under protected NCB on my stolen Audi but when I came to renew the wife’s car her premium went up with me as a second driver because my protected NCB was on my car and not hers.
In my youth I had the mistaken belief that if you had a claim with NCB your premiums would remain the same.
Some chance, they find any way to get you. Your discount remains the same, but because you’ve made a claim
you are a higher risk and hence the start point which they discount from goes up. Heads they win, tails you lose.
Had similar on the house last week. Phoned the insurance to let them know I’d lost a ridge tile from the roof, and would be getting a quote before deciding whether to claim. “You don’t want to do that sir, if I even log this call your premiums might go up next year”. Nuff said.
