You will obviously need a helmet with a snorkel fitted Ben, to enable you to breath when you have left your window down and let your car fill up with water!
It’s your head but I value mine a lot more than 47.39 + VAT
I’d buy the best approved helmet you can afford - the most important piece of safety kit there is IMHO
fair point, tho i value my head at a lot more than the price of any helmet on the market so where does that leave me? I take it you’ve got a top end full face helmet, hans device, roll cage and SNELL approved race suit?
My question really is where to draw the line, i’d rather trackday with a mate so an openface helmet is preferable, plus i’m big enough that it’s easier to put a helmet on once i’m in the car so in an emergency trying to climb out a window with a full face helmet i’d be screwed. So open face it is, i’ll go for a mid range one at 200-350 which should be more than adequate for trackdays… yeah?
More and more people are wearing race suits for track days, i used to, but dont any more. Dont know why, I guess because its a bit of a phaff and track days for me are a social thing as much as anything else. I dont try half as hard on a track day as I used to when racing, so I guess (rightly or wrongly) I dont associate as much risk with track days.
Helmet - check. Sparco Carbon Aramid
Hans device - check. Schroth
Roll cage - No but std T45 roll over hoop & full harnesses
Race suit - check. Alpinestars
I get the piss taken for all of the above because as Sean says its a trackday. The wall will still hurt the same as a race if I hit it at 100mph and will still catch fire if a fuel line goes
A mid range 300 helmet will be certified FIA or SNELL which was my original point. All the other kit is optional but if the worst happens I’ve done as much as I can
I’m using a Peltor open face helmet at only 800g. Its approved in Swedish car racing as the Swedish have done a bit more whiplash studies than FIA. Works very well and is very comfortable to wear due to the light weight.
