What a cool tv advert !
Had me instantly googling the specs for this good looking car…
Doh , what a dissapointment… Deffo not a classic offering from Toyota
Whatever happened to their 200 mph range of 15 years ago ??
Ok ,maybe 180 mph limited in the Supra…
… This new thing goes about as slow as a Hyundai coupe
I think you may have missed what they were shooting for.
Fun in today’s speed limited environment.
Also, it’s early days, it’ll get more and more powerful over the years…and move away from it’s original philosophy.

Not a Hyundai, but definitely a Subaru or a Scion (if you’re in the US) 'cos the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S are the same as the Toyota GT-86.
As I was once told, it doesn’t matter what you call a turd, it’s still sh*t.
I’d reserve judgement until having driven one, but do think they’d stand a better chance if they did a 280hp one, nice like they dont have the engine for it
Think theres all ready a turbo kit out for it, or in development in the USA, so I dont think it will be long before plenty of tuning options are out for them.
wonder how strong the trans is?

Ouch, a bit harsh there JFK mate, I’m not so sure. I agree that the base car is a bit under nourished but I think this will be a great piece of kit with a few mods. ( A bit like the Exige, once you’ve thrown out the Yamaha motor and put a Honda in )
There’s already plenty of tuning houses waking it up. It’s great to see a modern car with that layout / configuration. I’m sure they’ll make it onto the rally scene in the future.
I was right with you up to this point.
We’ve put one on our track day hire fleet, we’ll do some development with it as we’ll but Toyota have plans for a series of more interesting cars, this is just the start.
It’s a fantastic handling car, easy to slide, well built, decent interior and a 5 year warranty! No match for an Exige on track but its fun, a lot of fun.
Brings back memories
My step dad went to try out a then new Avensis(?) company hack, and whilst doing so, one of the other sales men took me and my mate out for a spin down some deserted country lanes in a Celica GT4, and a Supra
The GT86 seems like a good starting point.
A turbo must be a simple add on, it is only the boxer out of a scooby in the end
Already being done, there’s a 100k GT4 car coming as well!
Seen two today, love it, really tidy car!
'yotas or Scoobs?
I honestly have no idea but I saw two more today both within a minute of each other, at a guess yotas as there is a dealer in Bolton and I can’t think of a scooby one locally.
They do look great though but I have a feeling they will become very common very quickly.
On top gear tonight …
Very slow lap time…
