I know this topic has been raised before, but I’m curious about a number of things about how to modify an exige for a 6’5" driver!Although the seat is already very thin, is it possible to lose the runners (i.e. seat mounts) and mount direct to the floorpan? Can you buy either a shorter/offset gearstick (or can the OE gearstick be mounted to point away from the driver). I am also keen to either mount a spacer on the standard boss and fit a smaller dished wheel, or fit a snap off boss to achieve a similar purpose.I have driven an elise, but 1) had difficulty engaging 5th, and 2) my hands were pretty much fouled by my knees, so wouldn’t be able to get get much lock on very quickly if necessary…PS I’ve got 34" inside leg and weigh 17 stone, so am not ‘tall & thin’!Any comments/suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance.Fergus
I’m not sure on seat adjustments but I know IPJ fitted in his car at the grand height of 6’4". Find an old posting of his and drop him a line.He tried mine and commented it was an improvement. I have a removable steering wheel hub and a 300mm (20mm down on std wheel) MOMO Power wheel. The removable boss also brings the wheel out by about an inch giving even more knee room. The quick-shift mech has a shorter stick which I understand is also an improvement.Hope that helps.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Hi Fergus,i’m 6’4", to improve the space i fitted a removable steering wheel kit with a 30 cm momo and the B&M quickshift that can be mounted to go away from the driver (but on a LHD car).CiaoNicolas
You can also get a spacer for the Snap Off Boss that brings the steering wheel a couple of inches closer (and should therefore clear your knees)Geary stocks them
I can confirm that the B&M quickshifter can be mounted to point away from the driver on a RH drive car.
Hi Brendan, Where can I buy the Momo wheel and the B&M quikshifter and can it be used to point back towards the driver as I’ve got a buggered arm due to a bike crash?
Hi Rooney,
Any Lotus dealer should be able to supply the Quickshift.
eliseparts.com sell a quickshift, but I’m not sure if this is quite the same in terms of adjustment.
As for the steering wheel, there’s lots of outlets. Most dealers will probably stock, or be able to get you one.
I believe even Halfords sell a variety of Momo wheels.
You might want to try eliseparts.com or race-speed.com
Yup, you can point the stick towards the driver. Sorry to hear about your arm. I’ve been thinking for a few years about getting a bike, but it’s things like that which have put me off (so far).

I’m not sure you do them in an appropriate size. A std Exige/Elise wheel is 32cm diam. I have a MOMO Power at 30cm, as I like a smaller wheel, and it give the additional benefit of slightly more knee room. Especially as it is on a quick release hub that moves it out (and up) about an inch.

Thanks lads, I dont pick the car up until the 3rd but I fancy the 28cm one I saw on the momo site.
Before you change the steering wheel, it is worth noticing that the Lotus wheel does not rotate around its centre, but rather from slightly off-centre, which gives the leverage of the larger diameter with the knee clearance of the smaller diameter…
OK - so that is kind of hard to explain, but just sit in the car and turn the wheel and you’ll get it…

I swear I only did one post
Ermmm, you actually did three…
Ok, I’ll try it out when I pick it up on the 3rd. By the way how do I become a member rather than a stanger?

Clock up more than 30 (I think) posts on this bbs, ie your Premiership goal target this season
PS Good luck against the old enemy at Goodison today - or have I got the wrong Rooney
