After some rather exciting high speed oversteer at Anglesey on Monday, I am looking at several things to calm the rear end down and increase grip. (aside from driving slower! )
The S1 Exige rear wing is documented at giving about 100lbs of downforce at 100 mph, but the S2 rear wing is really just for show and to perhaps tidy up the rear end air flow a bit. It wobbles all over the place above about 60 mph and I am sure would break off if you sat 100lbs on top of it!
Went to Paul Mattyâs today and had a look at the MY10 year Exige with the bigger wing attached to the clam. It looks about the same size as the S1 Exige wing so I was wondering if it actually did produce some meaningful downforce?
The down sides for me are that I dont really want to start hacking holes in the rear clam to fit on, and to lose the âoriginalityâ of the MY06 car by taking the OEM wing off. I am also not sure about the look of the wing mounts⌠they seem a bit âclunkyâ to me! But if it did offer some real benefits in rear downforce, then I could be tempted!
I belive, but know doubt someone will be along to disagree but the combined downforce of wing and splitter are 40ish kg at 100mph. The new 2010 wing just gives the same down force for less drag.
There is a wing about from italy I think, that is like a standard s2 but its angle can be altered or there was the big wing that the racersude to run and I beleve evo-ufo had.
Iâve had a couple of reverie wings on mine. The first was mounted to the engine cover like the standard wing. If adjusted properly this doesnât flex much and certainly adds more downforce. Currently have the 211 wing on the car with supports going straight through holes cut in the clam to the boot floor on the longerons. This is a step up again on downforce and is completely rigid unlike the 2010 wing or some other clam mounted solutions.
Pete, I think the 2010 spec wing is very similar to the std wing in terms of downforce so unless your doing it for looks, other options would no doubt be better
It definitely makes a difference. One of my big concerns with the S/C conversion was that it would mean that I wasnât able to go flat as often. I neednât have worried the chassis just soaks it up. Iâm sure those that had PAX laps at Spa would agree. Just a pity that was its only outing this year.
