To those with 260hp exige

I am think of getting the exige and mod it straight up to 260hp from stock with A/C installed. I would like to know…how much much fuel is this baby gonna suck up? How much more than stock?

Well for a start, they have to remove the airconditioning to fit the supercharger (it uses the same mounting points)As for fuel… I’m not sure yet… I just keep filling it up when empty - but expect to get at least 30% less fuel economy when driven hard… But if you’ve bought a 30K car then spent another 10K on engine mods, fuel costs are the least of your expenses !

I come from the tropics. With the AC, i know it adds weight and hitting 4.8 secs from 0-100km/h is no longer possible,is it? I think they should make a smaller supercharger so that it can sit next to the engine. Since the Engine is in the rear and the supercharger is infront, won’t there be any lag? ODD car…so small.ARGH pathetic!!! M250 is a great car with SPACE unlike the exige. I can put my tennis bag in the exige!!! Stupid people are jealous of the M250 that is why lotus has to stop the production.

ExigerTrouble with sitting the supercharger next to the engine is that it will get very hot. In an ideal world it would be bolted onto the aircon unit so it would keep cool. However, there is so little room in the front because of the spare wheel. I suppose the best answer is to re-mount the engine longitudinally rather than horizontally, & do away with the tiny “luggage” area. That way the engine, supercharger & aircon unit could all fit nicely together in the same area. What do you reckon Mr Admin? Pardon me for my ignorance but has anyone explored turbos. If so what are the disadvantages ie: lag. And is it any cheaper than the super charger, which unfortunately is too rich for my blood. Which is doubley unfortunate because I really want it.

Oh No!! Just checked my car and do you know what? Lotus forgot to include my spare wheel! In its place is a can of tyre inflater!Oh well at least I still have a ‘Yip’ [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

What are you on today Pesky ? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image] The Exige doesn’t have a spare wheel, or did Phil and I mis-read you? Exiger, the supercharger is connected to the engine in the rear, it’s not a standard blower like you would see on a large block Chevy, it’s a centrifugal slip type (whatever that means)… it’s not really much different from a turbo except that it’s driven by the engine rather than exhaust gases.Advantages over turbos are that you don’t get the lag and that delivery is far more linear - one of the great strengths of a standard Exige is how near-linear the power delivery is for a given throttle depression.

I feel that, having done the research, that the north-south congiguration is the one to go for. I have spoken to an expert in the field and she thinks that, although the flywheel will have to be reversed and the final drive reground, the advantages will far outweigh the disadvantages. I have also considered that the driveshafts are too heavy and am currently looking into a lightweight shaft which is made out of kevlar. Any thoughts, anyone?

RussSpot on, but in all fairness the problem is, as we discussed last Friday night, that the driver’s seat/steering wheel/rack etc has to be re-positioned from the right to the left hand side of the car, otherwise the change in weight distribution really affects the handling.

quote:Originally posted by Admin5:Exiger, the supercharger is connected to the engine in the rearAdmin,Just for the sake of clarification, I presume you mean the supercharger is behind the engine as you look at it, after lifting the engine bay cover? If so, isn’t it connected to the front?

My take on it was that the supercharger itself is situated at the front of the car. Does this mean that the tyre foam has to be resited to the rear, both to aid weight distribution, and avoid a fire (because of the increased temperatures?) quote:Just for the sake of clarification, I presume you mean the supercharger is behind the engine as you look at itI’m in a quandry Russ and Pesky…is the supercharger behind the engine in a north-south configuration, or a normal RHD configuration ? If it’s “behind” in a RHD configuration (looking from the back of the engine) then in a north-south configuration, surely the supercharger would be seen from the right(west)if you were in front of the engine [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image] I know they’re a pain to photograph with a kevlar drive-shaft in the way (at least from the east !!) Chris R, whoever you are, I think you are talking total tosh and trying to make a mockery of this discussion ! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/mad.gif[/image]

[image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/image] Pardon my stupidity [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/blush.gif[/image] (I am still ploughing thro’ the “conFiguration” section of the spec. and have totally shown myself up.) Also please accept my apologies for the tardiness of my reply but I really must get a few more figabytes on my hard-drive shaft (if that is possible on a non-kevlar specimen) [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image] PS - How’s Rolf these days ?
