Titanium parts for S1?

Just wonder are there any titanium exhuast or manifold for the S1? When i had my s2000 there are lots of parts thats made for it from Japan and they were super light and nice…

I know Jim @ 2bular does do som titanium stuff for the S2 not sure about the S1, give him a call?

I have a Titanium silencer on mine had it made up by a guy who usually does exhausts for bikes.

Why would you want to? - sounds v expensive for so little gain?

I have one on my MR2 and its great. only 3.5kg for the silencer. Sounds ace and saves 9kg over the standard exhaust. It never corrodes or gets ugly which is a plus.

I would buy one if it was available for the S1. Strangely everyone is so obsessed with weight here then people spend thousands for stainless steel bits… ^_^’

Now, if they made one out of carbon!

April fool!

Actually, I am fairly sure that some company in Japan did do one for the S1 years ago (and no its not an april’s fool) :stuck_out_tongue:

I see people spends thousand on some stainless parts where as it will cost about the same for the titanium parts. Nothing can match the beautifully burned titanium tips…

I will do some research on the japan systems

I recently fitted a titanium system to one of my other cars, the weight saving is unbelievable, when the box arrived I thought it was empty, my original exhaust weighed 33Kg the titanium weighs 7kg. One of the other benefits Ive found is the engine bay seems to run cooler as titanium doesnt seem to retain the heat, in fact the exhaust is cold after a couple of minutes and thats even after a spirited drive. The system was quite expensive, but on the other hand it was a lot cheaper than other stainless steel systems that are offered. The main reason I went for titanium was because I was after a particular sound quality that you get with these exhausts, not sure if it would improve the sound of a rattling old K series though.

Yes Dave, my Ti exhaust cut down so much heat from the engine bay that I now have removed all the exhaust area heat shielding because it is not needed.

I would pay for a properly designed titanium exhaust

get the bloody thing running again first!

what about iconnel?

I can’t really see an advantage to using Inconel. It’s heavier than stainless and about twice as heavy (going by its density) as titanium. I know it’s used in F1 etc, but I thought that was due to the extreame heat produced by those engines and regular metals would melt\deform too much. I doubt a road engine puts out temperatures anywhere near the same. Although if anyone has any further information…?

Yeah… good point! :stuck_out_tongue:

hahaa

In my limited experience of Inconel use on (turbo-charged) road car exhaust manifolds, I’ve seen the older it gets (more heat cycles it goes through) the more brittle and the more prone to cracking it becomes - not really a problem in F1 where they bin them after every race.

Frankly, I would use Titanium only for the silencer and maybe the downpipe. If you use it for the manifold there is a good chance it will crack. The weight savings are huge though.

Did you manage to find anyone for these?

Whoops … S2
