times round croft

…the best guy on track is the one that goes home with the leggy blonde!

Female, presumably too

Well I guess that’s up to you Pesky!

mr pesky im sure i have talked to you once down at croft before, it may have been someone else but there exige was orange to. it was last year at the ford rs owners club day

phil

That was me matey. I did the RS day at Croft last year doing passanger rides and stuff. I was supposed to be there this year as well but I had a few mechanical issues.

My car is all multi colured now, but it was in its original chrome orange back then.

Sean…

Must say Track day companies over the past 18 months seem to be clamping down more and more on any hint of lap timing. presumambly becuase the insurance companies are getting on their backs about it. At one time it was never even mentioned in briefings.

Whilst I am not advocating doing ‘banzai’ laps with a stop watch tucked under your armpit! I think using a GPS data logger and analysing the data after the event ( including lap times as one element of that) is really the only concrete way for you to personally and objectively assess improvements in your driving.

No probs with that, mon ami

PS Can I borrow your GPS next time, please?

if i remember right you were in a shelter with a rs200, i was the lad with the yellow evo, first trackday that was. not all exige owners are toffs then, had a hoot at another day a croft when some exige owner turning his face up at my evo, posh boy he was.

Do you think there could be a link between your statement and the proliferation of postings on various boards about individuals times around various circuits?

I generally do Bookatrack days and Jonny specifically excludes any type of timing, even making the point by joking about looking up at the position of the sun on each lap.

Insurance policies are worded very carefully and I think that you are running foul of their conditions.

Answer - NO

Given the somewhat self righteous nature of your original posting I figured you were a ‘Jonny from Bookatrack’ type

To be honest I much prefer the style of briefing given by the likes of Graham Whitehead (Tracksport) than the half hour lectures the aforementioned Jonny specialises in. I have absolutely nothing against the bloke but he does love the sound of his own voice.

so what do you put it down to?

ouch - care to explain what you mean

What have you got against him - I’m assuming that you do many trackdays but don’t forget that for many people they are at their first.

Presuming that based on what you have said above you don’t do Bookatrack days, so I won’t be getting tangled up with you “racing”

I do look back on the video and am often surprised that laps I thought were slow were fast and visa versa.

With smoothness comes speed

The smoother you become the faster you will be, but the slower it will feel…Sounds crazy I know, but oh so true.

Regards timing on trackdays, I have never done it. Never felt the need too, I am going as fast as I am going and that is all… Had plenty of people telling me afterwards what times I was doing (not me asking them btw) but I generally take no notice of what ‘a good time’ is so dont compare it to anything. Again, never seen the need to. In one ear out the other.

Even with the karting I do, I generally take little or notice of the times I am doing on the day and will rarley go to get my time sheets (no qualifying for starters), were as everyone else on the grid has a lap timer on the s/wheel that they can download to computers to fuss about lap times. My mission is to just get past the man in front of me until there are no more men left to pass. Lap times are pretty irrevivant when your stuck up someones chuff and cant get past them for love ner money. Besides, I found that it’s not the stopwatch that finds the missing seconds your looking for, it’s the guy who has just come past you in the same kart/car and then taken the next corner Xmph faster but on a slightly different line to what you would take.

Personally, I reckon Jonny’s briefings are the best I’ve heard at any of the trackdays I’ve attended. That’s not saying anyone else’s are bad, just that Jonny’s are the best.

Let’s chill guys, trackdays are all about having fun

Have to agree with that, the bookatrack days have been among the best days I’ve attented. The only one I’ve enjoyed more was the Tracksport Exiges day at Donnington earlier this year, and that was down to the company, not the briefing

I think we’ve done this thread to death now some I’m goin to leave there.

Rob,

Yep, I should be there on the 16th if Maidstone pull there finger out and fix my supercharger!

Ofcourse you can borrow my DL1, only takes a couple of mins to set up. Just don’t let Jonny catch you

Yep, I should be there on the 16th

Two faced as well as ignorant then…

I think others will judge whose ignorant or otherwise. Frankly your comment sums up your attitude completely. Now be a good little boy and let it drop!

Yep, I should be there on the 16th

Steve G

Just to clarify, we’re talking about the Mid Engined Race at Oulton on the 16th Sept (in which Kinetic races), NOT the Bookatrack trackday at Croft! Accordingly, I’m sure that you’ll agree that your last comment was not appropriate

On a thread about Croft it was an easy assumption to make…so I apologise about the two faced comment

However, Kinetic - you appear to be unable to argue the point without getting personal - your earlier postings are examples and you have yet to answer why you think trackday co’s have gotten keener on timing issues.

Perhaps now I know that you are involved in racing, it explains your desire to time yourself on trackdays.

Some of the worst driving I have seen on trackdays is from so-called racers. With good track management they usually end up leaving before lunch - is this what is behind your “Jonny Bookatrack type” comment?

i have never timed myself either… I agree with Tarmac Terrorist’s approach, and the other comment about you go as fast as your going and try to go faster… that’s usually good fun I also think J5’s briefings are the best from any TDO i’ve used.
