time to sell!

the time has come to say good bye… ahead of ordering an S next month! where do you go to sell your cars? i have always been a fan of autotrader.co.uk, but does anyone else suggest somewhere different?

parkers.co.uk price as follows:

Lotus Exige (04 on)
Touring 2d 2004/54
Average mileage 5,000 miles
Original Price 32,571
Franchised Dealer 22,825
Independent Dealer 21,835
Private Good 20,645
Private Poor 18,660
Part Exchange 20,050

which is pretty aggressive! i was looking for 23-24k (with air con, tracker and momo removeable s/wheel). 12k miles. Am I crazy?

Pistonheads is probably the natural choice for selling performance cars, plus its free, so why not; if youd asked me two days ago what I thought of autotrader though, it would have a distinctly negative tone, past experience selling my mums last car resulted in endless phone calls to the office complaining about an endless string of problems, it was so bad that I had the managers numbers memorised!

However, yesterday we put my brothers car up for sale (just on the internet this time), and today we had three phone calls (not from canvassers ) within the space of five minutes!

In short, my advice is stick to the web, it reaches a much wider audience, and from talking to dealers, people are prepared to travel if it means finding the right car, and that, more than anything, is why Id try the net first.

Best if luck with the sale .

David

PS. Parkers seem rather harsh with their priceing, that said S2s seem to be proving rather hard to shift at the mo, that super cheap orange one hung about for a bit, and that yellow soft-top thing has been around for months…

Got to say this but you could not time it any worse than now for tring to shift a ‘summer toy’
This time of the year is great to buy though

Have to agree. Alot for sale on Piston Heads and not many shifting unless priced right…I had one offer on my 55 plate of 23500 and mine has only 3000 miles on the clock. Piston heads is OK but Top Marques is better as reaches a bigger audience…Good luck with the sale.

Have to say the price guides are completely out when it comes to real values.

I know I can sell the Punto Sporting for 1.5k but Parkers say 700.
They also value the S1 Exige at 12k Get real.

Best is to compare against the real market, and yes unfortunately you’ve left it too late this year as prices have softened

Unfortunately the price guides are usually pretty much spot on when it comes to 3 year old models or less.

In the Glasses trade guide N/A Exiges are going down in value at about 800 per month!

Only when a model gets a following do the price guides fall behind.

Sorry it’s not good news, good luck with the sale.

was never meant to be an investment

ive had mine on pistonheads at 23995 and ive not had one call or email. its black, a 55 plate, touring, a/c & 2bular although has done a few more miles than yours.
Market is dead good luck with the sale though.

If you can i would hold onto it till spring

Even had a mail asking if I would take 20k for a quick sale…can’t blame him for trying I suppose…it a tough old world in the used Exige land.

Good luck with the sale mate. I am from Edinburgh and have noticed quite a few Exiges for sale, after a black touring myself with approx 10k miles and FLSH. Anyone got anything similar let me know You got a link to your for sale ad Andy?

waz, i wouldnt discount a car just because it doesnt have FLSH, most specialists offer a far superior service and actually take pride in what they do.
If you fancy a test drive of mine feel free to get in touch.
cheers Ed

I don’t discount it as I know dealer servicing can be rubbish! I am just thinking from a resale point of view You car is exactly what I am after but wanted something with a bit less miles. Thanks for the offer though, did a test drive up at Murray Motors and loved the car. They have a Black 06 facelift model on a 55 plate with 10k miles, but 27k is a bit pricey! Saw a black one down London, 10k miles 2005 touring, advertised at 24.5k and was willing to take 22.5k but it sold just now as I was taking too long trying to shift my rx8!

22.5k!

thats a deal, a steal, the sale of f%king century!
but seriously, bad luck missing out on it. I had feared that the car wasnt helping my chances of selling.
If your not already on SE you should join up and say hi!
Good luck, cheers Ed

Eds is a great car.
A very good buy. When I was looking for an Exige I would of bought it but couldn’t punt my Elise.

Oh and it’s local to you…what could be better?

G (not on commission)

Oh and if you want a laugh, somebody just offered me 28k for my 3000m 2006 Exige S !

should have taken my 30500 offer a few weeks back

ive not even had any offers!

-damn my high mileage!!

should have taken my 30500 offer a few weeks back > >

Lol! You were the guy who wanted new rear tyres if I remember!?

Still got the dealers offer if all else fails. No rush yet, still awaiting planning permission on the place I’ve bought.

There are plenty of idiots out there if you’re selling.

yes as you seem to only get about 3000 miles out a set of rears and 6000 out a set of fronts.

And your car has done 3000 Miles so the rears must be on the way out by now.
