Why is it the third gear and not first that goes boom ?
Not trying to be insulting, but how many people who have had gearbox failures use heel and toe for shifting?
I do! You can give it all the mechancial sympathy in the world but it wont stop the torque taking the teeth off 3rd gear whilst in gear
I do however not just heel and toe but also double clutch every change to preserve the syncros. Another weak point! Was the only way I could get into 2nd before having the box rebuilt after a failed syncro.
Due to packaging, its actually thinner than the other gears.
I’m looking at the Christopher Neil 260 upgrade with the Forge intercooler. Any experiences? Is it worth doing the 2bular manifold & sports cat whilst I’m at it?
Will it make a big difference?
Cheers guys

Jeez … I spend half an hour digging out all my dyno graphs at 3 am…post all the figures and still he asks what’s it like !!
Day before yesterday it wasn’t, yesterday it was and today with the sun shining and a nice long clear stretch of road I know well it wasn’t.
Clear? Good.

In order:
If going for 300bhp plus then chargecool it
OR if under 300bhp get a better I/c plus sort the airflow out via a dremel and some pipework.
Then:
Trd, largebore manifold and backbox, 550cc injectors, 2.8 pulley and a new ECU remap at every change of component (best to do lots of the above at once and just the 1 remap).
Then have a good relationship with your local traffic police and tyre fitter.
Tuned to 328bhp, driven daily and no gearbox problems so far.
Is yours still for sale then?
Didn’t mean to sound ungrateful, far from it. I just wondered what changes it has made to the car. What spec was the car to start with?
Cheers
Don’t worry about JFK he’s one of life’s natural moody feckers, it’s a black country thing especially because of the gearbox thing. Leave it at 260…or buy an S3
^^^ ^^^
No worries …
I don’t think there would be much point in going from 240 to 260 really …
If you want a quick car you may be better off going the Essex route with 2bular 4/1 and a smaller pulley …
The lotus 260 ecu runs too lean to just put a smaller pulley and a manifold on without upgrading fuel system too … it can be done as I have shown, but the cheapest route for you would be the Essex way .
Yep, as mud
How’s tomorrow looking?
Don’t forget about Komotec…
