Throttle Problems Exige S 220 -MIL light coming on

Hi, I’m new to this forum and new to owning an Exige S, only had it two weeks. The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) came on a couple of days into owning it and put the car into a limp mode which restricted the car power wise, 4000rpm limit and a corsa 1.2 could beat you!! This kept on happening intermittenly so I took it to my nearest Lotus dealer who thought the problem was fuel contamination but got it back from them on saturday past and the light came on again on my way home. Boy was I gutted.

Taking the key out and restarting the engine can usually clear the limp mode side of things but the car tends to rev differently every time i start it. In normal operation the engine when revved should shoot up the rpm and then drop off quickly (ie if you tap the accelerator when stationary the revs usually go to around 4000 then go back to 1000 pretty quicly), what is happening with me intermittenly is that the revs shoot up and take a second or two to drop off (ie if you tap the accelerator when stationary the revs around 4000 then go back to 1000 slowly). Becomes very annoying when you are driving as when changing gear it sounds like you still have your foot on the accelerator as the revs keep shooting up upon a change.

My feelings on this is to do with the drive by wire throttle sensors within the ECU.

Has anyone had similar problems with this type of thing? any info would be greatly apprecaited.

Jonny did you get this sorted as my exige s has the mil light constantly on even after 4 starts. Have 2tubular back box and sports cat fitted.

Has this only started happening since you fitted the cat and exhaust?

I had a 2bular backbox and sports cat on mine for almost a year and the mil never came on. I sold it a few days ago and the new owner has now had the light come on. Not sure why though.

I’m the new owner lol!

Rich don’t worry. I’m sure it can’t be anything serious. I bet something has just come loose.

Hi I have the exact same fault with my 2006 Exige S, Lotus dealer in Edinburgh hasn’t got a clue what is wrong, have you had the fault rectified yet ?
Regards.
