Throttle butterfly needed...

Hi Gents,

Well after buying the car whilst in Afghanistan, I decided after a few frustrated blasts on the road that a track day was called for. Blyton is closest, so booked a Javelin day there and all was going well last night until the throttle stuck fully open…heading towards the chicane…arghhh! No drama though as I shut it down in short order and got trailered home.
Tonight, I’ve removed the L/H throttle body and noted that the first butterfly (or choke valve…whatever it’s called) had moved ever so slightly preventing the throttle from shutting fully. This wasn’t due to the screws being loose, but I’d imagine that they weren’t tight enough, but wouldn’t have been helped by the underbonnet temperatures.

So I have a shopping list and need your expertise in telling me exactly what I need.

1 throttle butterfly (as the edges of the one I have are damaged from my ham fisted attempts at removal…they’re really soft)
1 IAVC mounting clip and associated fittings (mine was dangling in the breeze just above the o/s driveshaft gaitor).
1 Loctite to refit all fasteners that had it on upon removal. (type unknown…help please).
2 tiny screws that hold the blue intake backplate/trumpet on.
1 Pink Coolant.

And finally what gasket compound am I refitting the TB’s with please? The stuff that was on there was black…

If anyone has second hand parts they have hanging around, please come forward…

Until it went wrong the car was fantastic and attracted lots of praise from the owner of Blyton Circuit and other drivers. I need to fix the car asap, so any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Kurt

Kurt,

The throttle bodies are Titan if standard Titan website or possibly Jenvey Jenvey website if the car’s been modified, worth trying them for spares if you’d prefer new.

The IACV mounting clips are rubbish, it’s not so much they fall off as they usually crack. Could be replaced for a rubber lined p-clip for very little cost, though I’d imagine it’ll suffer the same fate.

Loctite 222 or 243 is fine for this sort of thing, can be easily found in 10ml bottles for about 6-8

The screws that hold the backplate/trumpet on the Titan throttle bodies are M5x8 button head screws. Namrick Fasteners Website

Pink coolant is usually OAT type and can be found most places for a wildly varying array of prices Eliseparts Coolant
Opie Coolant

The gasket compound on the throttle bodies is just a gasket. Number 3 on Eliseparts Website again!

Cheers

Azrael,

How do I tell what throttle body I have? I can’t see anything on those websites that look similar, though I can confirm it’s not a roller barrel. As a bit of a result, Jenvey (who I contacted this morning) have said they will refurb the TB’s for me if they are Jenvey. EDIT…it appears they’re Titan.

Again, the gasket seemed to be of a rubber type (as opposed to paper) and seemed to be one that you’d apply with a syringe.

Thanks for the comprehensive info, and advice on the P-Clip…I’ll get straight onto it!

Cheers,
Kurt

Kurt,

It’s really difficult to describe this without pictures! The best way I can think of describing the differences between one chunk of metal from another similar one is if you’ve got the airbox off and can see the intake trumpets, if theres 3 screws on each trumpet they’re Titan TBs, if theres 2 screws then likely to be Jenvey.

As for the gasket, I’ve never used the stuff myself (I always use a cut gasket) but it’s most likely to be something like this [color:#000099]RTV Sealant clicky[/color]

Steven,

Thank you again for that, they’re definately Titan T/B’s. I have been in touch with the company (thanks for the link) and they will be sending me one out on Monday.

I ordered a P clip and that and the other hardware including the Eliseparts gasket should be with me next week, and I’ll take a trip to Halfrauds for coolant to negate the excessive postage costs!

I have taken images of the strip down sequentially, so will hopefully be OK for the rebuild. If I wasn’t such a clutz with computer technology, I’d have posted my progress up.

Thanks again and if I struggle with anything I’ll be right back for advice.

Cheers,
Kurt

I got it all back together last night and it ran fine aside from the throttle return spring (at the throttle end) seems to be weak. Are there any spares for that out there??!??
