This is going to get expensive........

Ok no need to get excited!

I’m sure in Jonny’s edited post it mentioned drilled again, and i was repsonding to that.

All i;m saying is that OEM exige drilled rears do seem to suffer cracking as well as the front. So IMo I would choose grooved on the rear also.

Yes I’m going to use these on the rear and get the Lotus Sport 308mm grooved for the front to replace my standard Lotus AP 308mm drilled which have a couple of small cracks in them, quite a shock to see the AP’s with cracks, I was not so surprised to see the rears with cracks as I had already cracked my last rears, these were my old front discs…

I just read the warning and wondered if these were the correct ones for ade’s car? And a little confused knowing fa about discs why some are drilled and groved?

I’m going drilled rear anyhow chaps btw…as my std disc are fine but 4yo old, I’m just changing to kill two birds and all that…

So what was the outcome of this with regard to the replacement slotted rotors for the AP big brake kit. Did you guys end up getting them from Lotus Sport, or did you find an alternative, cheaper source.

Mine have minor cracks after Silverstone but I’m obviously reluctant to shell out the best part of 800 notes for the rotors and pads if there is a cheaper source.

Lotus Motorsport AP Larger Grooved Fronts 524+ a pair (same as eliseparts)

Lotus Motorsport Std Rears 225+ a pair

PF pads + SRF supplied & fitted by JSRacing.

I spoke at length with Russell from motorsport, he told me hairline crack are nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on them and get them checked. He did say that the grooved were much more resilient to cracking but he does not do an uprated rear disc, I found that quite annoying as my rears also have hairline cracks coming from the holes.
I am now going to get mine inspected properly to see how deep the cracks are, then I’m going to get a set of fronts ready for when mine are too bad to keep using, also I’m going to order a set of the elise parts ally belled groved discs for the back as it is a cheap way of getting grooved rears.

Drilled discs always seem to crack if they are worked very hard.
Replace them with grooved ones.

I have grooved one the front of mine with pagid blues and they are very good job and no risk of cracking.

Thought I’d better post some mod pics now the work has been done. A big thanks to John at JSRacing for a cracking job well done on the car, it’s the only place I’ll take my car and would recommend others do the same. Safe pair hands.

Love that steering wheel. Details please

Yep, tis nice :sunglasses:

This one? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=SSW015P300SN

The car is looking fantastic :sunglasses:

And that’s the one Pesky, same size and same shape as the std wheel just thicker “girth” wise (suede also) but the big surprise is the boss from eliseparts because it’s pretty good and for 117 a bargin and John was so matter of fact about fittting it I guess there’s no issue there either.

Russ is gonna kill me, sorry mate.

Jonny … with those “mon” size brakes there’ll be no excuse to not use the loud pedal a tad more !! lol

( and Dad … he’ll be gettin one of them stoopid diff thingys next … Oh my life ! )
