Thinking of going up to 46mm dampers - JSR are getting me a quote for 46mm Ohlins.
Question is - is anyone running the 46mm dampers from either Ohlins or Nitron and if so what is the general thoughts/feedback ?

Why?
You’ve only just bought a brand new 260 Cup, & not even run it in, or tracked it yet?
Suggest you book Mike Wilds for a full day of one to one training at a trackday - it’ll be the best 450 you’ll ever spend, & also discover what the car can really do

I knew you’d be the one to talk sense to me
I’m still haunted by Will’s car on 46mm Ohlins and the cornering speeds he achieved.
I will take your advice but know that my car will be better still with the 46mm dampers. I can then get used to driving it (with tuition) without making any changes mid year etc
The speeds Will reaches around corners are far less to do with his dampers and far more to do with driving talent. He’s a good driver. That’s not because he has 46mm Ohlins.
There might be a second or two over a lap around the track in the dampers when you have the ability to make use of them, but before you are at that point ability wise, the money is far far better spent on some tuition… and that will make you quicker than the set of dampers will.
Seriously, if you haven’t been on track much, a days’ tuition with someone like Mike Wilds will probably take 5+ seconds off your laptime in a day.
Don’t get me wrong…It’s easy to get tempted by mods…everyone does… If the money isn’t an object, then there’s no harm in it I guess (provided you are not making the car too powerful for your level of driving talent - this doesn’t do you any good at all in my opinion)… just don’t expect the mods to make you quick, and don’t be surprised when someone in a standard car comes flying past
I’m just thinking of changing the standard dampers to either Nitrons or Ohlins, so if you do decide to take the plunge I’d be interested in your current shocks if they’re the 2 way Ohlins? I’d have the 46mm if I had the .
Says it all really
Totally agree! I noticed a huge improvement in my driving after just one session with Mike at Anglesey. It is the best thing you can spend your money on.
Thanks for all the comments - I agree tuition is the best modification.
While I am not a ‘driving god’ by any stretch of the imagination I have done over 20 trackdays and had tuition on several during 2006/2007.
My previous car had 36mm Ohlins and before I had to sell it was considering the 46mm upgrade - hence the question !!!
I know that the step from 36mm to 46mm will be smaller than standard dampers to Ohlins but I want to make the car as good as it possibly can be.
So back to the original question - any comments on 46mm dampers then ???
I only changed from 36mm to 46mm as I wanted the car to be more stiffly sprung, and that was not because I thought it would be quicker, it was because I was rubbing the front clam on the ground through the higher speed corners.

Chris
To be blunt, unless you just like chucking money about for the fun of it, shouldn’t you fookin try the car as it is? It is a Cup 260 after all! Then when you’ve convinced yourself that the dampers are crap (as if you haven’t already), let someone like Mike Wilds* drive it with you as a passenger.
