They All Do That Sir

Having now had the Exige for a couple of months I list below some of the “characterisics” that I have encountered and would be grateful for any comments and confirmation that "they all do that"Pinking - pick up in second if revs have dropped makes the engine sound like a bag of tin tacks. Is improved by using super unleaded or Optimax but does not go away totally. Does the 190 upgrade change to the camshaft pulley and ECU alter this “characteristic” ?Mouselike noise on gentle bumps - seems from recent thread this is a well known oneWorn front wheel arch liners - track day on Saturday caused front offside wheels to wear a hole in the liner. Seems little point in replacing the liner as the same thing will happen again. However it has exposed two rubber pipes which I think are the feed and return to the oil cooler - obviously don’t want the tyres to wear these pipes - has anyone else had this problem and what is the fix ?Apologies if the above are covered elsewhere - so many threads - I am being lazyRegards - David

PinkingYou shouldnt be getting pinking on SUL / OM unless youre trying to pull from below 2,000 RPM, in which case dont! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]>> Mouselike noise on gentle bumpsThe yip! IMO caused by moving body parts rubbing against each other. Try tightening the rear clam / roof bolts (including the internal ones) and you should find that it goes away most of the time.>> Worn front wheel arch linersTyre rubbing happens, especially over bumps. Youre sounds excessive; I suggest you get the suspension / ride height checked.HTH

TonyMany thanks for the replyBeing a new entrant to the board and without wishing to encourage outright advertising [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image] Is Pit Lane an authorised Lotus garage or just a haven for enthusiasts fed up with normal dealers ?Where are you based exactly - do you operate a delivery service and courtesy car to Hertfordshire [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]?Can you do mail order - particularly interested in driving light covers covered elsewhere ?Regards - David

We (or should I say he, as it is his car!!!) decided that rather than risk poor service down South, the car would be in safe hands at Pit Lane. We had a great trip up North, met some of the clan, and got to drive on some of the great roads in the Peak District. It is worth the effort to make sure that your ‘baby’ is left in the capable hands of those who provide first class service. And of course, you can save 20 per hour on labour!!! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image]Please be careful if you decide to tighten the rear clam / roof bolts yourself. The bolts on my rear clam had been over tightened at the factory causing a crack to appear between the two bolts. Thist later resulted in a complicated repair job with my car being away for 3 weeks.

At the moment Pit Lane Garage is the latter, although we are talking to Lotus about the former! We are based in Cheadle, which is south Manchester, just a hop away from the mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm 60 for those that feel that they must use such things. If the job makes it worthwhile, we will collect long distance with a trailer, courtesy cars are standard, and yes we do mail order (the polycarbonate driving lamp protectors are usually ex stock). However, my reply to your original question wasnt a plug! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]>> Yours truly, the Southern Pit Lane Sales RepThanks for that Julia! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image] How much do I owe you? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]David K, youre quite right, you should only tighten them if theyre loose, but they do seem to have a habit of working loose all by themselves!

David,My car has the 190 upgrade with cat rep and didn’t pinkNow I have put the cat back on and it pinks under 2000 revsWill soon replace the cat with a special silencer, this should get rid of the pinking and still produce an exeptable noiceEric

Where are they?I tried tightening the external ones on mine this morning. One of them fell out! I can’t get it back in, it seems as though the captive nut has moved, and the bolt can’t reach it [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]

TonyWill be visiting Manchester next Friday/Saturday and would like to pop in to get the driving light covers and meet up if you are there. What times are you open and can you give me a postal address (don’t worry about directions - the other car’s little more sophisticated than the Exige ie sat nav)Also - bit of free advice as I want to have a look at the wheel arch liner problem properly this weekend. I assume the jacking of the Exige is the same as an Elise ie central jacking point under cill marked with a sticker ? Once in the air and the wheel removed where is the best place to locate an axle stand at the front.Regards - David

Pesky,My Lotus dealer told me that he will fit a silencer with almost no resistance (like the catrip pipe) but will produce almost the same silencing effect as the catHe ordered it and I will have it in a couple of weeks (Janspeed I think)Will get back to you when mounted on my carEric

Two things though, I think that any baffles which were in my exhaust are now loose & vibrating (too many pops & flames!!!), & secondly, Janspeed went into receivership or liquidaton last week [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image](Anyway, please keep us informed of your progress .

What times are you open and can you give me a postal addressHi David, if you dont mind, please drop me an email to let me know when youre planning to drop in once you know when it will be. I spend a lot of time away from Pit Lane Garages premises but Ill gladly make sure Im around to say hello if I can. Our opening times are 08:00 17:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:30 12:30 on Saturdays. The address and postcode for your sat nav is:Pit Lane Garage LimitedCountess AvenueStanley GreenCheadleCheshireSK8 6QUTel 0161 486 9966Fax 0161 486 9977The Exige is jacked up as you describe, but to be honest I wouldnt like to offer an authoritative answer on the best place to put an axle stand given that there are safety implications. If its not too much trouble, give the garage a quick ring on the above number and ask one on the technicians (tell them I asked you to ask if youd feel happier doing so!). Id gladly ask them for you, but theres nobody there at the moment. If you need any more info, feel free to drop me an email. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Pesky,I too have the Supersport exhaust fitted, but what I mean is a replacement for the cat, some sort of low resistance silencerI will create a topic when I get it on my car
