There's no smoke without........

…some melted plastic, a cooked alternator and a ride home on the back of a truck.I was about 200 miles from home. Drove it for a while on the battery but it soon went flat. Car is now at the dealer’s waiting a new alternator.You have been warned — alternators fail soon after 8000 miles!Doh!regardsMike

Mine lasted 21K miles, but others (like Mike Turner) have had theirs fail much earlier [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]IIRC an exchange was about �80, so it wasn’t too painfull!!

Were there stories of alternators that weren’t attached properly and heat shields for them…? Are these contributing factors.
