The Italian Job

Hang on, lads; I’ve got a great idea, Bookatrack are planning two Italian track days close together in early October, Monza and Mugello. Ive always fancied an Alpine tour so now Im thinking of combining the two into a full on Italian Job.

Im looking into some different options:
 Drive there and back; or
Drive one way, motorail the other way.

Either way, there will be plenty of alpine pass action and two great trackdays.
Does anyone have recommendations of routes, alpine passes or hotels?

Does anyone else fancy a piece of the Italian Job?

Toby I think I’m in HK and China! Keep up the posts though mate depends on how dates work out :sunglasses:

now that does sound like an epic trip, could be tempted

Yeah Sounds good, could be interested.

Count me as a possible also

Me too

Steve - you do realise that Monza is adjacent to the greatest shopping area for shoes & handbags?

Go on, she deserves it…

Knowledge… Did you get the one you wanted mate!

This just went very doable with me Toby

Excellent!

The dates have gone up on Bookatrack.

  • Monza Tuesday 1st October
  • Mugello Thursday 3rd October

I’ve had a look at the previous Stelvio/Alps tours and come up with a possible itinerary that covers 8 days. The Autozug motorail from Dusseldorf to Bolzano helps get us there quickly. Then a day of alpine passes, two track days, with a visit to Modena in between to check out the Ferrari and Lamborghini factories, then three days to get back on as many good roads as we can fit in.

Sunday 29th September Sunday 6th October
Sunday 29th September (Day 1)
Folkestone Euro tunnel to Dusseldorf - 295 miles 4h 56m
17:13 Overnight Motorail train from Dusseldorf to Bolzano

Monday 30th September (Day 2)
Motorail arrives Bolzano 07:48
Stelvio Pass, Bormiio Pass, Livigno, Moloja pass, Bernina pass, St Moritz, Lecco

Tuesday 1st October (Day 3)
Monza Track Day

Wednesday 2nd October (Day 4)
Monza to Mugelo 188 miles 3hr
Via Modena (visit to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani)

Thursday 3rd October (Day 5)
Mugello Track Day
Thursday early evening, Mugello to Verona - 136 miles 2h16m

Friday 4th October (Day 6)
Verona to Rorschach via Mustair, Klosters
262miles 5hr 32min

Saturday 5th October (Day 7)
Rorschach to Bar de Luc 268miles 5h42m

Sunday 6th October (Day 8)
Bar de Luc to Folkestone (Eurotunnel) 238miles 3h47m

I’ve put together some google maps that I think are shareable. I’m open to suggestions on routes/hotels/itinerary as long as we have some major fun.

That sounds like an awesome trip!!

Been there done that Rob

Arghh - this is the time I miss living in Europe - that trip would be great, used to go to Brecia for Mille Miglia along similar roads Chur, Lenzerheide, Julierpass, Silvaplana, St Moritz … fantastic …

Silvaplana

No roof, no windows … nothing

Sounds like a great trip Toby, and I’d love to do it. But sadly not this year :frowning:

This will be very work dependent for me, will hopefully know in a few weeks. Very interested though

Toby, you just made yourself the main man organiser wise lol

Yeah, fair play organiser Toby!!!

My own European tour will be a little earlier than that this year, but here are some of my thoughts, more later
If you are considering the expense of the train, have you considered the Dutch version.

That could get you to or from Alessandria in Italy and Den Bosch is nearer to the uk
Also it is often cheaper to choose the return journey than the outward.
Some of your mileages in the Alps look adventurous. Do you really want to be thrashing along motorways or looking round museums when you could be enjoying twisty mountain passes
Note, Stelvio is not its all cracked up to be, there are lots better more flowing passes in the Alps. Try to fit in the B500 south of Baden Baden

Minor detail corrected.

Listen to SJW  He really is the Top Man when it comes to touring around Europe :sunglasses:
