Report in Evo this month that come 2012, new tyre regulations will spell the end for tyres such as A048, Toyo 888 etc.
Their lack of wet grip will be their downfall by the look of it.
I can see the logic, but it’s not as if you can buy a run of the mill car shod with sticky tyres, then get caught out when it rains. You should know when you’ve got different tyres to ‘normal’.
On of the guys posted this copied from the above thread ~ seems its just health and saftey getting in on the act
iLotus "Hello,
My wife works for the European Commission, and after reading the start of this thread I had the usual ‘look what your banning now’ argument.
However, if you actually read the proposal, you will find that they are only asking that tyres are rated on the basis of wet weather grip, road noise etc, and a label attached so the consumers can understand what they are buying. It will not really effect the purchasers of 48’s or 888’s, as they know what they are buying in the first place.
No tyres are betting banned, regardless of what the red tops / press say."
talking with the manager of my nearest bush tyres today and they havent heard anything about this at all… either there dumb or its just a rumour about what is happening… but on most internet sites for tyres they give ratings now… end of the day if ur buying tyres you do the research and make sure there the right tyre for what you want…
