Thought DSG didn’t fit? Must be lardy as well…
DSG is just taller, so will fit easily. Fair play to them getting it all in and working. The gearbox takes feeds from everywhere and everything is connected via CAN, so it is a big job.
I would like to know how integrated they have made it, there are a lot of really tricky things that you need to get around.
The extra weight of the box (they weigh 96kg’s) is more than made up for by the shift quality. They really are awesome gearboxes.
If you look at a VW Golf GTi for example, the acceleration times are quicker with a DSG over a manual.

I agree about the DSG box, I have the one in my A3 derv and it is awesome, sport mode is very good apart from the fact it doesn’t change down early enough for track use when braking, but there is manual mode for that…

Got an R32 with DSG. Love it, including launch control. I assume these guys would eliminate the nanny state electronics which are the only downside.
I have DSG on my TT 3.2 , it’s totally brilliant in all respects , and sport mode is exceptional, & I do use the paddles a lot 
I currently run a passat R36 as an everyday car and to be fair the DSG box completely ruins it unless your at 9/10ths 
Autograph are fitting the TFSI into loti, they may fit one with DSG.
DSG wiring must be a nightmare, as I’ve been involved with Haldex 4x4 swaps into golfs and thats been ermmm, fun.
Yip, Autograph offer the TFSI with DSG. They’ve never actually fitted one though.
I have got all the parts together for some winter mods to my smoke blower which include a DSG gearbox.
2.0 16v PD diesel 140bhp with twin turbos grafted from a 535bmw and some very large flow injectors to be fitted.
DSG gearbox is pretty damn heavy compared with the current 5 speed but as Shaun says the way it will shift compared to a manual box will more than make up for the weight especially with the way the engine will deliver the power. I currently end up running out of revs mid bend at several tracks and have no choice to shift up with the dsg shifting so fast it should be much better.
The dsg boxes can be remapped for significant benefits that allow lots more torque because the clutches are not held together by springs but forced together by hydraulics instead so by software changes the pressure can be increased to hold the extra torque. The mapping also allows changes to swap points and also stop the box shifting up on its own in manual mode if you bounce it on the limiter. The speed of shifts can also be significantly increased over standard.

what info does the DSG computer need? assume you can ditch lots of loom without it going ‘limp’

from what I know it just needs connecting to the shifter and the engine ecu via canbus. The DSG box only has a few wires. +ve, -ve, switched lives, canh, canl, and k line which is for standard diagnostics. The shifter mechanically is only used to pull a lever to put the trans brake on so it does not actually need to be connected if you dont want to use the internal brake. The shifter could then just be replaced by a rotary switch and shifter paddles. The computer in the shifter also talks to the gearbox via can bus.
I have an EDC16 diesel ecu, dsg mechatronics unit and dsg shifter wired up next to my pc and everything is talking properly. Each required parameter is being passed between the modules like requested torque, torque limit, revs, gear shift request, brake etc…
Fault codes on the engine and mechatronics unit are just moaning about lack of abs unit, dash, power controller and can gateway, however I cant see why any of these things would cause limp mode.
I will know in a few weeks anyway because I plan on having it running on the floor.
