Any suggestions would be appreciated on the problem i am having.
My car is a 2007 lotus exige s CN upgrade, forge Intercooler. TRD airbox. 1400miles
Ok so last month my standard plastic housing water radiator split about 3 inches long. Doh I have replaced the radiator with a welded aluminium uprated triple pass one from eliseshop.com
Car all back together system filled and bled ok.
Car running ok temperature sits 87degrees like normal. Coolant sitting between min and max in expansion tank. Heat coming from heater.
So far only been running locally and driving at normal speeds so no problems at all.
Heres the problem, been out down my local back roads today giving it the beans and when i do i can see the temperature gauge dropping quite quickly, once it gets to 72 degrees it drops off the scale. When this happens the car thinks its still cold (when it obviously isnt) and brings in the rev limiter in at about 7000rpm. So i slow down and drive sensibly again and the temperature creeps back up the the 87 degrees norm. Back on the gas and the same happens every time.
Am i missing something here. Didnt think the triple pass radiator would be cooling it down that much would it? I know it is very cold at the moment but come on!! There must be a simple solution?
Any ideas please?
Thanks Scott.
Thermostat? Have no idea if the symptoms are similar with a faulty thermostat on the Exige but on the German barges its exactly that. Just changed the thermostat on my Merc because the temp took ages to rise, on a run wouldn’t get above 60. Now it sits steady at an expected 80 degrees and gets there quickly
You still have air in the system, bleed again it takes a while to do if you don’t have a pressure bleed system.
Make sure you keep the level topped up so you don’t introduce more air in. Go for another run out then bleed again it’s surprising how much air you get in the system.
Best to wear gloves cos it’s hot, can help if you squeese the front hose too as this helps to move the trapped air.
Also bleed from front and back more seems to come out of the front bleed screw though.
Thanks for your responses chaps. I will bleed it again and go from there. I hope its not the thermostat because i can barley see it never mind get to it!!!
When you have given it a run out, with the front wheel arch linner removed leave the car to idle, let it reach about 96 degrees and feel the front hose it should be really hot and feel presurised, also check the radiator you should be able to feel the heat from both top grills if only one side is hot bleed again while engine running. Mind you don’t unscrew the bleed nut too far.
Hope this helps.
Car all sorted, re blead the system today and all ok now. Noticed that the original green antifreeze started flowing through the bleed nipple at the front instead of the red that I put in. That took a while to get through!
Thanks again chaps.
