Tell me.....

What material are the screws made out of that hold the carpets in place…

Oh no …
Are you robbing the mats from the Hilton again JF ??

Caliper screws are usually grade 8.8. You can use grade 5 titanium for equivalent strength.

not sure the carpets need titanium!

 Pure Velcronium. Or doublesideium.

Seriously, when the car was launched what held the carpet in place? Mine has two large aluminium screws either side, is that how it came?

Which carpets do you mean? The footwells came with rubber mats which caused the panels to corrode. Many people put carpets in (I think mine had them fitted from new by the dealer). For those a couple of the carpet holders similar to those supplied by Elise Parts are glued to the floor. No screws or anything else are involved. The original carpet holders are plain, the new EP ones have a LOTUS logo on top, which looks really tacky to me. I think the underseat area and the rear bulkhead are bare alloy. …I could go outside and check.

Footwell carpet mats were an optional (& not cheap!) dealer supplied extra & were installed using velcro tape & fitting over the OEM rubber sheeting which was glued in place at the factory.

correct. Mine had the rubber mats glued with double sided tape to the floor. Mine had loose carpets I believe on top.

That’s just like mine. I thought that was the standard fitment.

Mine has these

Without the logos, just plain alloy one.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. I’ve had some made to replace the scratched ones. I did it without thinking they could be purchased elsewhere, not that I’d fit the EP ones, they do look tacky but all good either way.

These look better!

My mats were glued with aluminium oxide !

Bollox, those are the ones. Lazy R&D

Jonny, I wouldn’t bother, the carpets don’t move, and don’t look great with the lugs fitted through the carpet. Looks neater without IMO

Thommo - there was a recall about 2 years after launch to check/treat possible corrosion to ally floor caused by rubber sheet glued to it. The fitting of the ally screws was part of the recall work undertaken by the dealers.

Thanks,Mr P. I knew mine had the recall as I checked with Hethel after I bought the car but did not realise that the screws were fitted as a result. PS: hope all well

Exactly and they would create a problem with the Exige carpet/mat so I told the dealer not to fit them.

Thanks Rob that answers my question.
