The stage is set for this great Targa Tasmania in April. 600 kilometres over 6 days – starting on 16 April in Launceston and finishing in Hobart – having completed 42 stages.
This year there are 13 classes from Classic through to Modern and including the popular Tour class and the growing Showroom class, which this year will include 2 factory Renault Megane 265’s. The Modern class with around 40 entries will include a Lotus Exige S and an S2 Elise. In the Regularity class an S4 Elan.
From the Launceston base, on Tuesday, competitors head North for a warm-up stage at Kayena, then to the Prologue on the streets of George Town. This sets the scene for the action to come.
On Wednesday, Leg 1 of competition, the Rally heads for the North coast with stages at Deloraine High Plains, Sheffield, Nook, Moriarty, Merseylea, Paloona and Mount Roland.
Thursday, Leg 2, heads to the East and North East for stages at Rossarden, Elephant Pass, Pyengana, Weldborough Pass, Moorina, Legerwood, The Sideling and finishing with the traditional Longford Street stage.
Friday, Leg 3, back to the Coast with stages at Mole Creek, Cethana, the new Isandula stage and Castra. After lunch off towards Strahan with stages at Oldina, Hellyer Gorge, Plimsoll Dam and Rinnadeena.
Saturday, Leg 4, from the Strahan base, stages on the West Coast including Reece Dam, Pieman, Murchison, Natone, Gunn’s Plain, Riana, Mount Black and Rosebery.
Sunday, Leg 5, finishes in Hobart after stages in Lotus country at Strahan, Queenstown, Mount Arrowsmith and Tarraleah in the highlands. Then a testing Woodsdale stage on the road between Oatlands and Levendale and finally the Grasstree Hill stage on Hobart’s Eastern shore.
With a mix of challenging new stages and old favourites, the 2013 event promises some great tarmac Rally action.
Justin Fengels and Andy Hewlett will be competing in Justin’s TVS 1320 equipped Lotus Exige S. With Rally support provided by Simply Sports Cars. The Exige will be running cool and sweet on E85 bio fuel.
