SVA vs EWVTA

In the process of trying to sell my car I have discovered it has UK SVA Type Approved, rather than full European EWVTA type approved. This has meant that it is not possible to register the car in another European country. Can anyone shed some light on why some cars are EWVTA and others are SVA? Mine is chassis number 516, registered in Sept 2001. I have found out that there was new Type Approval regulations introduced in Feb 2001, so I assume it is somehow connected to that, but I have found another car also registered in Sept 2001 that has EWVTA approval.

Have you asked the factory if they can shed light on this?
Good luck. But we dont want anymore S1s going abroad…but with the temporarily low pound I guess it is enevitable

The other car is mine, Sept 2001 51 plate which is on EWVTA so could be exported. I think the old S1 register identified which chassis numbers where SVA but I cannot find the register anymore.

This is the more comprehensive list

Thanks, I could not find that list.

It looks like all later serial numbers cars are SVA. Late serial number does not have to match with late registration as these cars did not sell well at first. It looks like mine was made in 2000 but was not sold until Sept 2001 (probably spent a year in dealer’s showroom).

That’s helpful - I also could not find the list by searching.

My car is 516 New Aluminium VHPD SVA UK.

Seeing that most of the later ones are SVA then I assume it is because the cars did not comply with this Type Approval Legislation http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/25/pdfs/uksi_20010025_en.pdf which came into force on 1st February 2001
