Has anyone had their cars suspension wishbones, and anti-roll bar media blasted and powder coated. Just wondering what sort of costs and what other related improvements are worth doing at the same time whilst apart?
I had mine done on my old Elise, but the price I paid include getting new bushes pressed in and a supply of new balljoints and trackrod ends.
I think it came to £850 all in, saved me a fair bit of aggro because I had some seized balljoints so I could just take my four corners off as complete units and hand them over to let it be somebody elses problem
No problems! You can of course do it cheaper DIY, powdercoating is a cheap process if you just outsourced that alone (I’d say £100ish for the lot based on odd jobs I’ve had done before) but pressing ballpoints and bushes can be a pain without the right kit. By the time you add in the component parts it felt like good value for money.
I would be tempted to DIY my Exige ones when they’re done (possibly this winter?) Just to say I’ve done it.
I’ve done quite a few suspension refreshes over the years one S1, S2, and Europa’s. The best method I have found is to shot blast, wet zinc prime and then hand paint several coats of Rustulium top coat. This I have found gives the best protection and most importantly can be touuched up if and when it gets chipped.
Powder coating once its chipped or cracked cant be touched up and moisture gets in and out then starts flaking off over time.
Another option that I am planning on doing with the current S1 Elise I’m building, is to hot zinc dip then top coat them, just researching prices and the moment, if it works out then I will also do this method on my Exige later on in the year.
