Supersport billys 10 way adjustment

Hi everyone

I want to have a go at playing with my dampers tomorrow as my exige is just too bouncy on my local country roads and I expect the dampers are currently set quite hard.

Is there a decent wiki or FAQ on basic damper tuning? I’m thinking of something that explains the basic rules of thumb like x clicks front vs x clicks rear will mean More understeer/oversteer etc etc.

How the front arb adjustment plays a part too etc??

Lotus suggest 3 clicks front 2 rear I think as a starter road setup…

I am not sure on the billys at all tbh but from what I read the lotus settings are a little strange. Normally you run a click or two harder at the rear than the front with the nitron’s so I guess that would be similar for yours.
By bouncy what do you mean? If you were too hard I would think the car would be more crashy and skittish on the road, if the car is bouncing that would suggest not enough rebound to control the spring from what I know (not alot really) so possibly too soft.
Hopefully someone like SeanB will be along soon to help you out further.

Sorry - bad description from me I think. The car is crashy, in a way that makes it difficult to drive at speed over a bumpy road as it jolts around an awful lot.

Just been out to the garage it is set to 6/10f and 6/10r so that’s probably just too hard for the country lanes.

I suspect 2 front and 3 rear may be the order ofnthe day then, giving a very slight tendency to oversteer?

Are they one ways? And there are ten clicks ten being full hard?
I heard that lotus settings are harder at the front to give more understeer.
I think your right, try 2F 3R and see how it feels then go up a click or down a click depending on what you find.
Gav (21GG) used to have the Super sports billys and from memory he did say they were a little crashy at times, he may be able to help with which settings he used as there are a few nice roads near Poulton he is sure to of tested them on

Just wanted to add I am not sure if the extra click to the rear is because of the extra weight at the rear (so neutral) of for a touch of oversteer, but I am sure someone will be able to help out with that.

Yep, 10 hardest, one way adjustable.

Well it gives me something to play with tomorrow so I expect I’ll find a good setting. I’ve got a very special set of bends near me that are just right for tying things like this out

Will, I would be interested to know how you got on with playing with these setting as im in the same boat, cheers.

As Boothy said, I had these on my old car and found them crashy. I tried softening it up but it made no difference. In the end I increased it, either one or two of clicks over normal. It was still hard but less crashy. Ultimateley as I only do 1 or 2 track days a year now, when I changed my car I stayed with the standard suspension.

Gav

Well - after a bit of playing around I’ve got mine set to 2F, 3R now and it doesn’t feel too bad to me.

At least as compliant as my previous S1 Elise with standard s2 billys on.

I do find the traction control cuts in a little more than it used to now when getting the hammer down out of tight bends, but that’s fine, i dont want it too hard for road use.

I might give it one more click front and rear to see how that behaves, in some cases it does feel like there is just a bit too much body roll for me, but then again, the adjustable ARB is set to 3/5 (middle setting) too at the mo so could change that too.

The one thing my ‘testing’ taught me last night was that I REALLY need to sort my brakes out - they are terrible!

Cheers i will try these settings with my Billys.
