Well, a bit of drizzle put a bit of a dampener on proceedings but the turnout and variety of cars was well up to the standard of the previous(first) event. Most importantly, the bacon/ sausage butties and coffee were up to the mark.
Two dealers took advantage of the event to show off a few motors, Amari Supercars from Preston and Bowkers from nearby Osbaldeston but there were plenty of other fine sets of wheels to drool over. Once again the Alfa SZ put in an appearance and despite having seen it last time, I spent a good few minutes looking it over again, trying to work out where I might get the money to put in a bid, should it ever come up for sale.
A startlingly white Porsche GT3 with centre lock wheels caught the eye outside the front door of the striking Mitton Hall where the hotel’s owner (and, I am told, major Lotus enthusiast) James Warburton rolled up in his Aston DBS. Exiges.com had a very respectable turn out with Steve Bestwick (6970K) treking down from Carlisle, linking up with GP_Fisher en route and Gav rolled over from Poulton-le-Fylde in the Evora with his nipper Owen in tow - A future petrolhead without a doubt.
Pesky’s colourful Exige drew plenty of admirers as did Ted’s burnt orange example. My yellow midlife crisis drew hardly a glance despite being recently fitted with the Edwards Boyz splitter and diffuser. And Ollie from Phoenix popped in with his very stylish Elise + Brian the bull terrier. Last seen eating the handbrake.
An Audi R8 V10 in titanium with black gloss wheels had the onlookers clicking their shutters at the engine compartment.
Mrs T, who had made a rare outing to a motoring event, declared it her favourite car of the day thanks to it being a “practical” car you could use every day.
The Aston Rapide ran the R8 close with Her Ladyship. I can’t recall seeing one close up and was surprised by how stylish, compact and well-proportioned it was. In common with lots of owners, the Rapide’s driver was more than happy for us to open the doors, boot etc and pore over the beautifully detailed interior.
What else? GT3RS in battleship grey with deep red detailing. Glorious. A lovely red Capri looked like it had just rolled off the production line. A great Sagaris, the odd E Type, lovely early 911.
And if you do visit, don’t miss out on a walk round the inside of Mitton Hall. It’s amazing
Edited to include 21GG and his lad, sorry for the earlier omission.
Bloody hell Thommo, ever thought about journalism as a career?
Nice write up, & certainly a great turnout of nce motas. Pete, Steve & myself then went for a run up to Grassington.
Mucho embarassment today - had to be recovered on the M61 around lunchtime - I think the tank’s fuel pump has given up the ghost after 12 years & 103k miles! Hopefully, Ollie will get it sorted in the next couple of days!
Great write up Steve.
I will be going again, sorry to hear about your car problems though but Ollie will soon have them both fixed.
This forum is great we do have a good laugh and get to meet some really nice people.
Thanks, Benja. This time I kept the iPhone in the pocket so no snaps.
I keep remembering other cars that were there, a lovely blue Noble for example. And a Bond Bug.
A friend of mine had one from new and they were surprisingly quick and nimble, sounded good too.
Well, my Lakes report has no pics, but on Sun there was a ‘Sporting Bears’ gathering in the village with one or two interesting cars. On Monday nipping into Keswick passing the Filling Station there was an Ariel Atom in full Gulf colours on what little body work it had. Looked quite good, if a tad draughty
