Super Soft Tyres - Hillclimb

Trying to find the best tyres for hillclimb use … in UK

Very soft, upto temperature quick and dont need to last very long

Seems not so eay to find anyting in the right sizes for 16 and 17 … in OZ we can get A050 in soft compound and those seem to be raved about … but not available in UK ??

Any good ideas ?

My mate who hillclimbed the ms elise used wets.

Funny you should say that … was he using Yoko Wets ?

Andy, Read the Regulations carefully as most UK series have a limit on tyre choice.

I think so yes. I’ll ask him next time I bump into him at work.

I do National Hillclimbs in the UK , the best tyre is Toyo R888 , which is eligible for the Road Going classes, supply during 2011 was restricted after the well known problems in Japan / floods etc …

Alan Meaker is the man to talk to at Toyo Tyres in the UK

If you want Hillclimb slicks then contact BMTR in Birmingham who specialise in Hillclimb and race Tyres

The yoko wets give a very consistent feel straight off the line. I’ve used them for rallying. However there’s too much tread block movement and they’re no match for a soft slick in damp or dry conditions.

I’ve tried Dunlop rally slicks in X22 supersoft compound and Kumhos in K10 compound and they’re great with surprisingly light wear rates on an Elise. As already said, it depends if you are allowed to run them in the regs.

Thanks for all the comments …

Exige will have to run in sports Libre class, so I think tyres are pretty free … will check that though

Problem is the 16 inch fronts, there are not a lot, if any options … Avon dont do the correct size/compund combination unles syou buy 50 ( info from BMTR ).

Ive also looked at Kumho so thanks Wes will look into those more and the Dunlops

Why on earth would you want to run an Exige in Sports Libre ???

And its not for chasing little platic pots or China cut glass goblets… been there, done that … its for some serious fun

As a hillclimb fan I look forward to seeing it in action.

You can run a modified exige (engine change) in limited production class…unless it’s not road legal.
