Supension Survey

I recall a while ago we had a brakes thread that was quite interesting to see the various configs. I’m changing dampers and have spoken to a few people about their setups and figured it would be interesting to do it again…

Here’s me :

Car : Exige S1
Dampers: Ohlins 46mm 2-ways
Springs: 425f/550r
ARB : EP 1"
Ride-Height : tbc
Comments : Dunno, not driven it yet

My road car :

Car : Elise S1
Dampers: Nitron 46 1 way
Springs: 450f 650r
ARB : EP 1"
Ride-Height : 95 f 105r
Comments : very predictable, higher spring rate on rear helps control honda weight out back.

The other one:

Car : Mongrel S1
Dampers: 2 way ohlins 36mm
Springs: 260cup
Arb : still need to buy one!
Ride height : about 4ft F & R sat on a trailer on pallets!
Comments : build time currently approaching 1 year anniversary with about 6 months still to go.

Worst “I’ve got ohlins 46s post, ever” :lolno:

Car: Mongrel elise / exige half breed with honda heart
Dampers: Nitron 46mm 1ways
Springs: 500f / 650r
ARB: Stock 135R
Ride height: high
Weight: 850KG
Comments: hard to say with my experience, but Jamie Stanly thought it could do with being stiffer (although we didn’t get a chance to wind the clickers up)

I’m told once the LSD is in, it will ‘push the front’ so I’ll need to ‘turn it up to 11’ so might get a new ARB for it

Nitron 40mm Trackday Pro one way
Car Exige 220S (ruined by me LOL)
Springs 550f\750r
ARB Eliseparts 3x stiffer adjustable on max setting
Ride height 110\115ish
Weight 916kg full tank of fuel (extended range Proalloy tank)

Comments: I drive like a girl so most people would be faster, my car is more capable than me

S2 Exige
Dampers: Ohlins 46mm
Spings: 425f/550r
ARB: Plans Motorsport
Ride Height 105f/115r
Weight: <900 Kg

Comments. Goes very nicely. Only time I’ve thought it needed to be stiffer is on the ‘straight’ at Anglesey where it tends to drop the clam onto the left front.
Got some motorsport uprights I’ve been thinking of fitting, and if dropping the ride height on those might go up a bit on the spring rates.

Would love to get another 50 kg out of the car, really noticed the difference when jumping into Jonny’s NA at Anglesey last Easter.

S1 Satsuma
Dampers : Quantum Black 1 ways
Springs : 500/650 I think. Hazy memory.
ARB : Nothing special.
Ride Height : 115/125
Weight : 755kgs

Car is great, I am useless.

A nice trend already showing. Ohlins with nice soft springs. Not that I am biased or anything

S2 Exige
Dampers: JRZ 1 Ways
Springs: no idea, think they are about 400/500
ARB: whatever is on there as standard
Ride Height: whatever Hangar 111 set it at - my demand was no worries about speed humps but a little less than standard, so think it’s about 120/130
Weight: 860kg according to my MOT tester

Comments: it was fab at Bedford on Saturday, slight tendancy to understeer when damp - probably need to soften the front dampers in those conditions but can’t be arsed. Jonnyfox’s rear toe link kit made a real difference to rear adjustability.

Black Car S1 Honda
Nitron 46mm 3 ways
550/750 springs
S1 Exige ARB on full Hard - need thicker one really I think
Nitron SB Wishbone bushes
Heights 110/120
Camber -2 FR -2.5 RR
Total Toe 2mm out FR 2mm in rear ( bit tail happy ) I think rear needs a bit more
Weight - Lardy 850Kgs

Orange Car s1 Audi
Nitron 40mm 2 ways
550/750 springs
Motorsport ARB
Nitron SB Wishbone bushes
Heights - low
Weight - no idea
Geo - No idea but it seems to work really well

S1 Exige
Nitrons Track Day Pros.
Can’t beat em!

S1 Exige
Completely original underpinings, whatever that was.
Not sure I’d notice any difference :unamused:

(Still fancying your cast-offs, Ben!)

2-way adjustable 36mm standard fit Ohlins with whatever standard springs they come with.
120mm ride height.

Requiring refurbishment - AGAIN! Crappy roads to blame surely?!

Still no adjustable ARB!

Springs on those are 325 front/425 rear.
