Stone chipping on rear clam

Quite possibly this is an old post, but has anyone a suitable solution to minimise the stone chipping to the leading edges of the rear clam, by the sills? The helicopter tape just isn’t up to it. Are there any extrusions available, apart from a hose-pipe?!

There is an official Lotus part for this. It’s not brilliant, but it does the job. Ask your dealer.

Ah… hadn’t realised that, will take a look
Thanks

but can’t find the original “self destructing rear clam” one. Might have been a victim of that server crash a good while ago.

Anyway, the official solution is quite feeble and mine wore away very quickly - I guess it depends on the type of roads you use. A better solution is to use panel edging/protection strips like THIS

Had wondered about edgeing strips, saw car while back which looked as though it was using an L shaped extrusion, really clean… thanks

Eh? Steve, surely the official rubber edging strips don’t wear away? Mine seemed pretty robust.

I phoned the factory in March to see how I went about getting these protection strips and they told me they were a free retro fit for s1 exiges but I had to order them through my local Dealer. I phoned the dealer to order, explained the situation, they agreed they were free to me, but was told I HAD to pay for them since THEY didnt get them free! A cyclical conversation followed before I gave up and handed over the 11 pounds.

Yes - I did mean wear away, impact damage from stones and road debris, the equivalent to shot blasting them, meant they soon started to fall apart.

Fitting front mudflaps goes a long way to stopping the problem even starting though.

handed over the 11 pounds.

Jim - 11, that’s madness for what they are - you must be able to get the heavy duty edging strip for alot less.

Another thing to bear in mind with the official kit is that if it is not cut to length properly then it will be too short to go around the return edge of the rear clam underneath the car - and this area is particularly exposed to damage.

Just did mine again…using this stuff

It looks good.

Agree, looks good

Supplier & code?? or whats it off!!

Sorry - I don’t know the supplier or where to get it from, I’ve had it for some time now and just find it very useful for a mulitude of things…

No worries Steve, thanks anyway!!

I have tried to search online for a similar product but not found one

Even so I thought it may be of some (if limited) benefit to post the photos up…

Is the edge trim from here a possiblity.

I used some of their U channel for the diffuser Maddog made up.

Ideal, will give them a call, thanks!!

Is the edge trim from > here > a possiblity.

Good find! That’s definitely the stuff I have…
