I’ve had some new tyres fitted (R888’s) and they have been absolutely amazing in the wet weather recently. The only thing that concerns me is that at motorway speeds I seem to get quite a lot of vibration through the steering wheel, to the point where on longer journeys i can’t feel my hands. Before I had new tyres fitted there was some vibration, but nowhere near as much, do you think its a balancing problem?
Deffo blanacing. Typically, semi-slick tyres are less mass-produced than other types and hence are inherently less balanced, making them harder to balance when on the wheel. I’ve found that you generally need to find someone who’s got a good, accurate balancing machine to Get things right on the Exige. I’ve been to a couple of places where their machine’s said my wheels are in balance but when they’re on the car they feel anything but!
Try getting them rebalanced and see if they can get them any better.
I called up the place where I usally get my tyres fitted and asked them if they thought they would be able to have a look for me. I explained the that it might not be as simple as a standard car and they asured me that if they coundn’t do it no-one could as they had just purchased a brand new top of the range machine.
I’ve taken it for a quick run and its completely removed all of the vibration!
When I was chatting to them I said that i had the tyres fitted from eTyres by a mobile fitter and they said that the mobile ballancing units are nowhere near as good (which makes a lot of sense when I think about it).
Anyway thanks for your help and if anyone is in the Sheffield/Rotherham area I would recommend AP Tyres 5+VAT per corner.
