Steering wheel spacer

Has anyone had a steering wheel spacer fitted, see example here http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=SSW01595B ? I’ve recently fitted a pair of MOG seats, which are very comfortable but make the driving position more reclined, hence the need to bring the steering wheel forward. I already have a snap off kit fitted and just wondering if it would be safe to have a 50mm spacer fitted between the wheel and snap off boss.

Provided it is properly fitted and the attachment bolts loctited then I can see why it would be a problem.

Provided it is properly fitted…

Amen to that! Some numpty did the Ali screws for a spacer that comes with the Snap-on removable wheel hub up too tight and as they go into steel it stripped them and the steering wheel ended up coming off in my hands on an airfield day.

I made an ally spacer about 40mm thick to move my stering wheel a bit closer to me. Made it out of a chunk of ally and just drilled holes in it. I simply used longer bolts that pass through the steering wheel, the spacer then tighten up into the original hub. I did go for high tensile jobbies and used loctite!!

have fitted a 50mm spacer and driving position is perfect now 1A recommodation!

would love a 70mm spacer, but the steering wheel gets to high then…

Can you fit a spacer to the standard wheel?

I’ve got a 2cm spacer on the standard wheel in mine. Its made a huge difference. I got the eliseparts spacer/adapter and then just ran through the 4 holes with the drill and fitted longer high tensile bolts.

cheers for that.

I don’t understand what you are saying as there is no way to space the standard wheel out as it sits on the splines on the steering column? If you space it out you can’t get the central nut on. If you mean you have drilled some holes through the standard wheel casting and bolted that to some sort of splined spacer then that’s very dangerous.

Can only comment on the S2 wheel, but it can be removed from its boss by removing 4 bolts. This is where you would add a boss adapter if you were going to convert to a snap off, or momo/sparco bolt pattern.

Once the wheel and boss are separated, the same boss adapter, which is 2cm thick can be drilled through, and then fitted in between the boss and the wheel.

Is the S2 different from the S1?

S1 and S2 wheels are almost identical, apart from the S2s fake aluminium horn button surround. Both are bolted to an ally boss. I can’t see why you couldn’t add a spacer quite safely.

Can you fit a spacer to the standard wheel?

yes, I have the standard steering wheel with a 50mm spacer
