Been going through the car’s suspension in order to obtain a good starting point for a full geo and have found a few worn components including the rack itself.
Has anyone tried a recondition unit, if so how much and where did you go ?
Was it any good ?
Are there any cost effective replacements available ?
One last question if the car is running 10mm lower all round than std is it a wise upgrade to go for the rack raising plates or are these only necessary in full race trim ?
This might sound stupid (well that’s how I felt when we finally discovered it ) but it’s quite easy to think you have play in the rack/bushes/etc when it’s actually the removable steering wheel hub.
We went into a lot of detail looking for the xs play. Whilst i was taking up the play in the QR boss the others were checking the steering components, and the final diagnosis was with the car in the air and moving the road wheel itself and it is 100% in the rack.
I admit though when the car is 100% movement free there is always a bit of play through the steering wheel via the QR Boss so i know where you are coming from !!
Well I have gone ahead and had the rack rebuilt at a cost of �60 ( I thought quite reasonable) I have purchased some rack lifting plates to try what effect they have on the bump steer and once fitted off to get the car geo’d properly !!
