standard seats...

ive tended to have harnesses in my previous cars, but all of them have had the cut outs in the back.

are the standard s2 seats able to take harnesses, or are they unsafe to do so???

i seem to have a fetish for schroth harnesses at the moment, but sadly 2 new seats are out of the question at present…

thanks…

Yes you can fit harnesses with the standard seats, running the shoulder straps over the seat shoulders, but it’s not ideal, and those that I know have done it have ultimately upgraded to seats with harness holes.

Advice from Schroth:

Seems fair to me!

All depends on how tall and big you are I’d say.

I can get away with it, but Mrs Muu the belts are just plain dangerous as they are pushed wide of her shoulders.

I think over the years there have been a number of stories and many posts about the right or wrong way to fit seats and harnesses.

I started off with harnesses on standard seats but soon changed the seats to those with designed in cut outs after taking a conservative view on the possible downsides.

At present, I’m musing over the best way to have the lap belts attached to the car. I’m unhappy with some of the angles as well as the fixing points but have not seen a perfect solution yet.

Only relevant if you actually drive your mota! Would be great to see it out at Anglesey this year

Yeah - thinking about that - was going to have a Bat cat again but think the prices have jumped considerably this year. So might bring Exige out of retirement…

Nice one Steve

Have you retired from work now, or just having a decent holiday?

Rob - somewhere between the two at present - took redundancy just before Xmas and having a break at the moment.

Well trying to sort my self assessment out, company accounts and a number of other financial issues

Hope all works out, both short & long term, Steve.

I have standard seats and harness’s and they are fine.

My harness’s bolt on to the bar as opposed to loop around and I am not the tallest chap evet to get into an Exige. (read shortass)

I’ve seen harnesses crossed over behind the seats to stop them slipping off the shoulders, not sure it is sensible though!

looks like i will have to add to my ever ending mods list…

i said i wasnt going to start modding on the exige after my 450bhp scoob, sadly i seem to be giving in…oh well…

Have you had a major accident in it to be able to state this?

Again, from Schroth:

“Webbing should be crossed if the distance from the seat openings to the mounting bolt point or harness bar exceeds 450 mm (18).”

Schroth do grommets for the seats. See this thread on SELOC

Somethings you can apply common sense to. If you see how and where they are attached and my stated height they are fine. They are not able to move.

Have you had the same high speed accident both with and without harness holes ?

The short answer is YES , I used to do it in my Elise, and competed

Although note Schroth’s own comments made earlier.
I’ve seen it done. Looks fine, but will it be OK it a collision, your call.
