Standard S1 roof with no ariel

Guys an’ Gals,

I am going to have my radio and ariel gubins removed from my S1 (have never used it since I bought the car) to get some additional gauges fitted in the radio slot.

Do any of you know what the roof of the car looked like from the factory if the radio kit was not ordered with the car? Was the roof completely flat, or did Lotus still attach the ariel stem and fit a plug inplace of the ariel (or something)?

I want to make sure that the car correctly looks like it never had this fitted (an originality thingy).

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Clive.

Leave the ariel on

IIRC no cars ever came without the aerial.

Looks best with aerial in my opinion. I have no use for it but always attach it before I have a run out so I can listen to the engine properly

I removed al the aerial wiring and the radio. Closed the hole with a SAAB shark fin.

Radio bay looks like this

Brill - PMSL

Does it give you a super charge whine without having to fit a super charger?

Righty-ho - I’ll keep the ariel on.

FlyingDutchman - Its your radio bay that I want, though probably just the two gauges for oil temp and pressure. What is the third one?

Cheers,

Clive.

Clive

I bet the 3rd one is water temp  Much easier to monitor than the readout on the Stack!

A few of us have Racetech gauges - not as accurate as the SpA digital display type, but any “important” variances from the norm, can easily be seen.

Mr P, what do you actually use those 4 black circular things for?

Ive always sorta presumed it was somewhere to keep the cartridges

Nah, I fire blanks!

They’re “fed” from the cig lighter socket, & are used for mobile phone recharging & SatNav if required. Unfortunately, I still can’t find my way around a circuit!

Yes, water temp!

I bought the Stack ones from Demon Tweaks as I liked the 270degree display. And the price was sensible, not like the SPA ones [grin]

btw. Purchase the plastic mounting plate in carbon look as well. Easy to cut and fit. Mounted it with two screws into the alu.

He He,

What you want is a MADDesign multi-function radio console

Ooooohhhhhhhh - I like the mounting plate! I’m off to spend some money.

Cheers for the piccies.

Esprit,

I followed your design and manufacture of this baby, and very impressive it is too!. However, I don’t think I can multi-task enough to shoot the car in front with the lasers, start a global thermo-nuclear war, and buy / sell on the stock exchange whilst I’m driving

Cheers,

Clive.

Get a woman driver then!!!

Pah, guages are sooooo last year dahling…

You try reading that when on track, & in bright sunshine, matey

Or can you set the parameters (eg oil temp/pressure etc)for warning lights to flash?

Nice looking jobbie though :sunglasses:

PS Where do you buy carbon fibre stylee vinyl coated mdf these days? Ikea???

very funny! parameters can be set for almost anything, im sure theres even a warning light for low gravy

Now you’ve got me interested! :sunglasses:
