As per the title, has anyone owned both cars and given the choice again, would you pay a premium over the standard car!
Having sold my “S” back in the summer, I had thoughts of buying another brand of car, but now do miss having the S2 for that occasional blast and with a couple PP cars available on the second hand market
I am looking at buying a car again in the new year and having experienced both the options above have the following thoughts
The AP brake upgrade on the PP is definately worth it but not convinced on the extra 20 bhp.
Also after experiencing Will’s 200bhp non supercharged car but with 46mm Ohlins, AP’s and some weight reduction I am definately considering that option
A 20K N/A car with AP’s, Ohlins etc added would be around 25k and with a little tuition I consider a ‘faster’ track car
I had an N/A which I had upgraded with the AP big brakes and motorsport ECU and clutch, owned from new since 05.
I then bought the S 240 PP in August 08.
The 240 has all that plus 50 BHP a little bit more weight.
The 240 is massively faster under acceleration, more than the BHP/torque figures would suggest. The N/A can barely cope with a hot hatch or a meaty diesel on the roads, but the 240 crushes everything on the straights this side of supercars and in the corners…well all exiges are king in the dry above say 8 degrees C ambient.
On track? I can’t see a straight S or N/A being faster even if the latter is a smidgeon lighter, same driver.
I currently have an 07 S and an 08 240 Performance Pack, and I feel the improvements are worth it. The power difference is not really noticeable, but the other advantages are great. Brakes, roof scoop, shifter improvements, and I feel better build quality are all worth it. Just my opinion.

Yes - the shift is smoother - what have they done?
The hydraulics introduce a delay however which slows clutch re-engagement on full rev upshifts which I don’t like and is my only criticism of the 240. I aked Lotus what is was all about and apparently it is to do with the launch control. Personallly I d rahter do withoutb that gimmick and have a natural full speed change up.
I’m just about to have my ‘S’ upgraded to PP spec through LotusSport, not as expensive as you’d think - certainly cheaper than trading in for a new one.
Mark…
Really love the "leap off the line " accelleration…
As discussed earlier the Diff swap has made the car for me.
Without filling Pesky with horror however the car lacks the desired punch of a true supercar
After 80MPH or so it feels just “Cossie” to me … And that was 20 years ago ?
Not really an issue to me as I “will” be tinkering soon.
Not for sale tho …
So no GT3 yet Mark?
I doubt that adding 20 bhp would modify your Exige experience much tho …
Add another 100 or so and that would undoubtedly have an effect !
… Then it gets pricey !
Originally 177, now 200 and I noticed a big difference.
Drove the S2 Exige S and frankly was underwhealmed with the extra 20 bhp… probably the extra weight of the car.
Drove the Edwards 280 bhp conversion and was seriously impressed with the power… just a constant crushing acceleration in every gear and at any speed… (is that why you are so short Rob!)
Seems to me that therefore the 240 would be nice… but the real difference would surely be in the higher powered options… with those big brakes too!
I traded my 06 S in after 15K miles for a new PP240.
The PP240 is an easy 2 seconds quicker round my local track which is Knockhill. That’s quite a bit on a short track.
If you were considering a new standard S versus a new PP240 then it is a no brainer. The added advantage is that the 240 will go to 260 for less money as you dont have to mess around with the injectors.
Also, the price difference between the two cars second hand is greater than the difference when new so that should tell you a bit.

I had a 111R from new in 04. Didn’t mess with the brakes, but i did the ecu upgrade, ohlins/adjustable arb/MS track brace/Exige wheels & tyres. Since 1st Nov have had the 240PP & the difference is night & day & I completely agree with what you said

Tim, do yourself a favour mate and take all of your wheel bolts out one at a time, put on some copperslip and re torque them to the correct setting. It will save the ball ache of having them stick in like mine on a car not even 12 months old… Why Lotus dont do it right the first time is beyond me.
On another note CN’s will be doing the motorsport stuff very soon and should be able to upgrade the std S to 240PP levels, I have no idea on cost yet tho. They will also be doing a supercharger conversion for the NA which will be the proper Lotus jobbie with warranty.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.
Flying Exige - Have you received a quote from Lotus Sport for the upgrade to PP spec?
