Well after the woes of Snetterton I have decided to call it a day with the Quaife gearbox. I think over the last 18 months I have given it a fair crack of the whip, but after adding up spare parts and rebuild costs enough is enough. It’s all out now and will be rebuilt before being sold. I have bought a standard Exige box to go back into the car until I have finally made my mind up on what to replace the Quaife box with. I am nine tenths there with my decision, but as the favourite to replace it doesn’t come with a K series bell housing (or any bell housing for that matter) I will have to get one designed, drawn and CNC’d so it isn’t gonna happen in five minutes.
So my question is does anyone have the standard Exige gearbox ratios including the final drive, so I can work out how bloody crap and slow my car will be at Oulton Park.
Thats interesting. I’ve always understood that Lotus fitted the shortest ratio’s available for the 'yota cars, cause the standard set used in the celicas etc were way too tall for the Elise/Exige
Or is that the two sets of figures you’re quoting?

Nope - from what I know, the std Celica/Corolla (140bhp) have different gearratios to the TS models (Celica/Corolla TS models == 189bhp).
There’s definately a shorter gearbox than the one that is standard in the Elise 111R and Exige S2.
With the standard 111R/ExigeS2 gearratio, following is possible:
1st gear at 8500 rpm = 45 mph
2nd gear at 8500 rpm = 67 mph
3rd gear at 8000 rpm = 88 mph
4th gear at 8000 rpm = 111 mph
5th gear at 8000 rpm = 142 mph
6th gear at 8000 rpm = 160 mph
With the sport or close ratio gearbox, it’s:
1st gear at 8500 rpm = 47 mph
2nd gear at 8500 rpm = 64 mph
3rd gear at 8000 rpm = 77 mph
4th gear at 8000 rpm = 96 mph
5th gear at 8000 rpm = 111 mph
6th gear at 8000 rpm = 144 mph
