Stack Temp has gone mad!!!

Hey chaps,

I still haven’t sorted out my idle problems when I start it warm but yesterday something else started going mad :astonished:

I was stuck in traffic for about 20mins (the car had been running fine as I had started it from cold) and the temp was steadily going up as usual but then kept going up.

It reached about 120 and I couldnt hear the fan come in but then the gauge shot up to 999 and started going totally mad!!!

It then started flashing and shot back to 120 and then started coming down.

Any ideas?
And does anybody know if the stack is accurate as the handbook says the fan is supposed to kick in at about 104?

I’m wondering if my two problems are linked!

Thanks in advance

The fans and the stack are controlled by two different sensors. A blue single wire sensor is connected to the stack where as a brown two wire sensor is connected to the ECU which controls the fan. The stack one is known to be a bit poor as it is only a single wire sensor and fails quite often. It’s probably worth changing it just to rule it out. It shouldn’t be anything to do with your other problem though, since as mentioned, it only controls the stack. However a poor\bad earth will also cause the blue\stack sensor to go nuts as it relies on the chassis earth as it’s return path, not too sure how much a bad earth affects idle?

Thanks Acestes,

Yes I’m sure its got to be one of those sensors. AndyD had also suggested it could be the ECU sensor that was causing my idle problems.
Now I’ve got these problems it definately seems to be pointing in that direction so I think I will probably change that one first.

Cheers for the help
