Set out today and speedo indicator arm stayed put, then flipped up and down,( like an old mechanical type), then just as suddenly righted itself. In the short period it was not working I noticed that the mileage was not going up. The rev counter worked perfectly throughout, by the way.
I’ve done a search but nothing seems to refer to this problem.
Any ideas?
Early warning of impending HGF.
I’ve reported this post as misleading twaddle.
That is perfectly normal behaviour for a speedometer when the car is driven in town. The milometer will not register miles travelled while waiting at traffic lights.
It could be a bad connection though (plenty of those on here)
Yup I had the same problem it was the connection from the wheel speed sensor ,…at least that’s what John told me
I recall following Sean from Donny to Dudley after a track day,…now I’m sure Sean stuck strictly to the limit so I guess everyone else was driving quite slowly that night
Oh and it must have been years ago though as it was before Sean disassembled his car
Well, you ask an innocent question . . .
And as for Mr P, the mention of HGF was uncalled for; I worry about enough about it as it is, so don’t need any prompting, thank you!!
A mate of mine with a Honda’d Elise had the same issue
… just before it threw a rod!
As Benja says, a dodgy electrical contact eg wheel sensor or wire from the sensor I had a similar occurence some years ago when the wire from the sensor got trapped following rear clam removal/refitting.
PS Thommo - it’s gonna happen one day, sorry!
PS Pete - many folk wanted to throw Rod Hull for years!
Who is this Rod that lives in Hull - never heard of him
Yep get the wheels off Steve and take a good look, I had this also after a dyno session.
Thanks, chaps. If the sun’s out tomorrow I’ll give her a run to see what happens.
I’ll follow jonnyfox’s advice and drive the wheels off it.That’s what you meant wasn’t it,jonnyf?
Yea that sounds like way more fun lol
Who!!!
Wheel off. Sensor clean as a whistle.
WD40. Reassembled. Speedo still flickering up and down. New unit?
Wiring issue?
I would try running a separate wire, just to check that first.
Thanks, Sean. That’s probably beyond me so I think I’ll pop up to Ollie and Greg at Phoenix and let them have a gander ( and enjoy a brew, a lunchtime curry and good natter)
Ollie already on the look out for a replacement for me Steve, mine has a blip every few weeks, Ollie/Greg can soon slap another unit in to see if its a wiring problem, in my case its not.
We might get a group buy discount!
I had the same issue a couple of months ago - did all the checks on the wiring and cleaned the connector and didn’t do anything. Changed the wheel sensor itself and every thing has been fine since
Change the sensor,eh?
That’s interesting as mine appeared to be in great nick. But worth a try at Phoenix, thanks,Paul.
