Yesterday I lost the tacho, speedometer and fuel gauge elements on the Stack display in my S, with the needles on the dials reading zero and the fuel gauge reading empty despite the tank being full. The mileometer displays continued to give a read out, however. After a while everything came back again and has been working normally ever since. B and C say wait till it happens again before bringing it in to them as it would be difficult to diagnose a fault which isn’t apparent at the time they look at it.
My question is: is this a common problem with the Stack display (which appears to be unchanged since the S1 days) and what should I do about it as I find it a bit disconcerting when driving around with no speedo?
Chris, the current dash its all digital, however there is more than one plug on the back so it might be worth checking that they are all plugged and locked in positon.
To get to it remove the steeing column surround bit, then undo two bolts and the binacle comes away.
The S2 dashboard isn’t made by stack, I think its someone like Sekurit/Securon or some such plastic muck.
Anyway all three of those signals come to the dashboard down one wire (the CANBUS), it goes into the dash via a muli plug but. I think the same wire pops out in the diagnostic socket under the dash right down by your clutch foot, I can tell you the colours etc if needs be later from the wiring diagram.
Many thanks for the advice. I will check that everything is plugged in securely and that the wiring looks OK.
I stand corrected that the current instrumentation is the same as the S1. I have never even had a ride in an S1, but the instruments look similar from outside the car. Also, I was told that it was a Stack unit, which of course have a good reputation in the racing world, but again I stand corrected.
