Spring Rates

Hi All

Did Silverstone last night - good & bad news

Good news - more power
Bad news - more power

All my previous lines, breaking & turning in points shot to s**t

Had to try and learn them all again - nearly got there after 2 hrs

I now know what they mean by absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Biggest problem was the car now feels under damped on 325 Front & 425 Rear springs.

Because my entry/exit speeds were up the car felt too soft.

Here’s the question - should I look at stiffer springs because I don’t have much adjustment left on the damper settings and if so what would be a sensible opton ?

All abuse gratefully received

I run with 425 and 550 on my S but that is on Nitrons so might be different

Ask Will EVO-UFO what he’s putting on, as I,ve just bought his old Ohlins.

I’ve now got the GT Spec 46mm Ohlins with 425 Front 550 Rear, with helper springs to allow me to set a lower ride height. Also given the car a much more track oriented geo. Big improvement on track for me but the aggresive geo has spoiled it a bit for the road. Might need to set it to more of a compromise.

Seen a lot of chat on Seloc recently about the Hoffmans spec Nitrons running much higher spring rates. Possibly 700 at the rear but not sure. Think Jamie has these on his while Honda SC S1? People are raving about them but I’d say that unless its a track only car 550 seems enough.

You could ask Lotus Sport as I know that they have a set of 3 way adjustables in their e-brochure and I’d be interested to know what spring rates they are.

Also interested to know the rates on the 2-11 and the geo it uses as I beleive it uses different steering arms?

I have to agree going stiffer at the rear does improve things
I did have 425/500 spring rates on the S2 but from what I have learnt I should have gone for 700/800 at the rear but you would need the appropriate valving

S1s are using 550/650 rear spring rates and they have a lot less weight to contend with…
You dont really want to make the damper do the springs job

I run 525/650 on SA Nitrons, I think they work great…

Does anyone know what are the maximum spring rates for these dampers?
