No more wing envy for me. I’ve made a hybrid S1/S2 wing

Thanks to Russ T for supplying the S1 wing, and thanks to Ian at Nick Whale for sourcing a reject S2 wing from Lotus Sport act as a donor for the supports.

I also cut the endplates off the S1 wing and then bolted them back on so it looks almost like a standard S2 item. This also gives me the option of changing the design in the future.

Looks good. Did you not fancy colour coding it, or would that have looked a bit ‘S’ wannabe?

Very sylish though

Tim.

Very nice!
Almost too standard

Thanks for the compliments guys

I’d like to colour code it, but I’ve never had any luck with gloss painting. The satin black is easy to do without any polishing etc. I wanted to do the job myself to ensure it turned out exactly how I wanted it. The plan is one day I’ll get it colour coded professionally, along with the side pods and front splitter.

Definately an improvement, but WTF do I know about wings?

Does it still wobble, like the factory one?

If the FIA hear about they may send Charlie Whiting round to test it!

[Sorry, F1 humour. I understand I may only have amused myself ]

The standard wing doesn’t really wobble as such. You can move it about because the engine cover isn’t solidly fixed, but it’s perfectly stiff enough for job. Mine seems to be no different.

It’ll be interesting to see how it compares with Pesky’s wing if I bolt on some massive squareish endplates

Good work. I like that a lot!

Pesky’s wing was fab at Anglesey. They served the buffet on it

A very definite improvement - the rear angle shot shows it best for me - the proportions of wing length to car track show up OEM one quite badly.

big improvement looks wise over the standard one.
felt any difference in downforce yet or not had a chance to properly test it?

I’m happy that all of the comments so far agree that it looks better.

I deliberately set out not to make a significant change to the downforce. To be honest, I can barely tell the difference with no wing at all on the road.

Here is a link to a site selling carbon wings for the s2. Its also oversize but tastefully done i think, as is yours

I have seen one and its very well made, i am considering it for my S as i do not like the matt black bits in body colour (Aspen White) anyway.

I like the bendyness of it all.

Over 1200 though!

Ian

I seem to remember hangar 111 displaying a c/f S2 rear wing at Donington. Can’t see it on their website though

Tim.

Over 1200 though!

Smiles very, very smuggly

That was the PB Racing wing. Hangar 111 are importing some of their stuff. Give them a call and they’ll be able to sort you out.

Yeah, yours is straight though, there’s is bent.

Ian

Over 1200 though!

I thought I’d spent too much on mine until I saw that!

Did this wing get finished?

I read Brendan took it off due to some side wind effect?

It looks like it has potential, but needs thin end plates not OEM.
